oil in coolant
On the way to work the heater stopped and the oil light came on. CK the level and no oil registered. Added a lt and after 5 more miles the engine temp hit the roof and the defender entered limp mode.
The dealer tells me the oil cooler split and engine oil has contaminated the cooling system. They flushed the system and gave me back the car. I have looked in the expansion tank and there is oil still in there. Is this a serious problem or can the puma shrug it off?
Many thanks for your thoughts.

18,000 m later and a service all well with no issues at all. I think with limp mode and auto shut down these engines are good at looking after themselves!

Afternoon all,

Ah the joys of the transit dura torq engine. Big Cry Yes your oil cooler / heat exchanger will get us all and there`s not much we can do but replace it and spend between 2 and 5 hours, flushing the cooling system checking for limp, swollen hoses the hot oil weakens the rubber. I`ve found non bio washing powder or gel is very good at braking the oil / sludge down especially if you use really hot water going into the engine. its cheaper than flushing fluid and it does bubble up bringing some of the oil with it.
Also change oil and filter in case of cross contamination, it should`ent happen due to oil pressure most of the time being higher than cooling system pressure but better safe than sorry..
Changed loads on transits, ldv convoy. Another gift from the mechanical gods Bow down

happy new year.
