Like title says, is it worth while buying old man emu shocks? Im after a more comfy ride, everyday defender driving, nothing too extreme or anything too fast on the road, just looking for a better, maybe even softer ride on back roads and farm tracks. At the moment im running terrafirma shocks which where quite good to start with but after 2 years there nearly shot.
So whats the opinion? Thanks. Pete. |

Good ride but the rear shocks have a weakness in that the lower bush rings are known to sheer off!
You can also get the same shocks cheaper from Monroe but I can't remember the Monroe name. |

OME is good, but bang for buck, you can't go wrong with Terrafirma or Koni --

OME get my vote. 6years the fronts have been on my truck cab, they are superb (+2s) its used mainly off road.
Trayback is running OME on the rear, which i changed to after the TF just didnt last 2mins. havea set of OMEs ready to go on the 110 when i get around to it. yes i think they are worth the money i have tried Koni, TF, King, OME, std, Bearmach, TJM over the years and OME win, in this instance, £££ for value, for me based on my experience. OME ready to go on my new truck. Only other I would consider is Koni. Pay out once, learn via our mistakes.

You will not be sorry the OME shocks are superb. I had +5" OME shocks with Gwyn Lewis' suspension setup for years, actually just taken it off the 110. I have now got Koni Heavy tracks on with standard springs and ARBs and the ride is just fantastic. I rate the Konis as highly as the OMEs for sure. When you fit the shocks make sure you prime them before fitting: fully compress and extend a few times each.
Enjoy the ride. |

If your car is going to work with big weights in bad roads, don't go OME. They lasted about 7 months in my car. After that time they were insanely shot, really crap stuff for me and a pair of Toyota owners I know here in Colombia. Off course they lasted LOTS of time more than Britpart std stuff (27 days) and little more than Monroe Adventure (5 months). Original LR shocks lasted 3 years, that's quality. I wanted the Koni's or Bilstein (Terrafirma are really weak options), but Paddock's didn't want to send them by air, so had to bring Britpart Cellular Dynamics....

Been out with them all day today and they are horrible!! I asked for some shocks for a softer more supple ride and they have done exactly the opposite! Its not a very firm ride and very very choppy! Looked on the OME web site and there for a 110 with over 300kg in the back. Does anybody know how i can go about returning them now they have been used, i did ring up and ask about them being so stiff and was told they need to be used to soften, but they havent at all, if anything there stiffer.

I have also found OME hard on the rear of a defender unless you carry a load with them, the only OME I would recommend is the steering damper!
I have tried many different makes over the years and end up back on LRO stock ones and then for some reason I repeat the cycle M 90 & Wolf 110 XS Previously owned SI SII SIIa SIII & Light weight (air portable) |
