Singapore 2002 Defender 90 Td5 SW Oslo Blue
Speedo rushing up and then falling is due to a weak battery.
This random happening is also coupled with the fuel gague dropping to empty and immediately up again once started. Same thing, when this happens, it's because of a weak battery. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island.

Sorry for not posting again sooner, but been busy with work. I haven't yet had the time or money to get it in to the indy for a timing check. Battery is fine, attached a fully chraged one from a JCB and it was still the same.

One thing i've noticed in the last couple of days is that when at a standstill and holding the revs around the point that the turbo kicks in i'm suddenly shrouded in blue oil smelling smoke. Though when actually driving it there's no smoke. Vanes are all still in place, a small bit of play in it but nothing silly. The quest will continue when I get some more funds

Right, had some more funds to put towards it which are again drained. New fuel pump, all electrical connections checked, new earth wire just in case, timing is fine and still no change. Well and truly stumped.

I love the car, but not enough to keep throwing money at it, so may just run it for a while and sell it after the summer.

Right guys, I'm sorry to drag this up again, but I may have to keep the 110 a bit longer so I still want to get to the bottom of my problem and this is the first chance i've had due to workload.

I've had it serviced recently, so doesn't smoke at all and no misfire.

Below is a video i took this morning of a cold start - bit warmer this morning so it fired first time (albeit rough as usual/very slow revs) but on colder mornings takes up to 4 turns before it finally fires.

Also dies as soon as i touch the noise pedal.

I've noticed a slight knock on start up that you may be able to hear in the video.

Any fresh ideas?

(and again, sorry for dragging this back up!!)

EDIT: Heres a vid from this morning as it was around 3 degrees
