Headlight dip/main beam relay buzzing and no lights!
Hi all,

First time poster on here, been on disco 3 page a while, always owned land rovers of some description!

Right we have not long brought a 130 cherry picker for work. We've had a few little problems with it but nothing serious!!

Today the lads were out working with it an they ran the battery down as you can stop the engine from the basket an that leaves the lights on an the fuel pump running. They jump started it off another truck but as he was driving it back as it got darker he noticed the lights not working.

He got it back to the workshop for me to look at, I took it straight round to my local LR sub dealer to see if it was something easy as they needed it tomor.

We tried a pink headlight main beam/ dip beam relay, the short light switch and the indicator switch with no luck!!

To sum up my long drawn out story( sorry) you can push the light switch all the way down and you leave the big stalk in dip beam and no lights except side lights come on but you can hear the pink relay under dash buzzing, you can push the big stalk down for main beam and the lights come on but there really dim. You can pull on the stalk as if your flashing someone and they work fine but the relay is still buzzing.

Your help will be grateful about this!!
Thank you Bow down

I'm guessing you're talking about a late '90's vehicle? I believe that the pink relay is part of the dim/dip system as the lights themselves are controlled directly by the switch rather than via relays. You're best bet is probably to isolate the dim/dip system completely (and throw it away as it's pointless anyway). Failing that, it's out with a multimeter, I'm afraid, to trace wiring and check for shorts. Darren
