Memory map you upload the map you want prior to going out. It then just uses the iPads GPS.
I think that's how it works. As I have used it where there is no signal. |

Ah right, excuse my ignorance, I only just got it tonight!
Does the GPS not use any data then? (I really know FA about technology!) 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top |

I very rarely have 3G turned on, on my ipad and memory map functions perfectly without. That's assuming you have the maps loaded already, as if you buy maps on the fly you'll need a data connection to down load them.
Also you may well find that it acquires a better fix with wifi turned off as well. I'm still on an initial Ł10 payg card from 2 years ago, so either it uses very little or they have forgotten about me having said that I don't download much when on 3G, just the odd web page and PayPal usage. GPS and 3G/cellular signal are completely unrelated, yes.
No knowledge of MM but sounds like maps are stored locally like a tomtom, rather than downloaded continuously like google maps or equivalent. Therefore unless you are wanting to use email etc you shouldn't need 3G on at all. Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

If you're talking about route plotting memory, it's very small.
I've run all day with running out. |

I don't even have SIM card in my iPad. Memory map does not require it. If I needed to I can use my iphone as internet hotspot for iPad whilst out and about, but not needed for MM.

The only time that Memory Map requires internet access is if you want to activate 25000:1 maps whilst on the move - but you would need to have purchased a chunk of digital download maps.
I have the full UK at 50000:1 on my iPad which I find good enough for Greenlaning. One word of warning for those thinking of getting an iPad - it's only the 3G enabled versions that have the GPS chip..... 2013 Aintree Green 110 Station Wagon SX |
