110 X Tech - Drivers Door Rattle
Can anyone help me, I have a 2012 110 X Tech. When I go over any bumps or manhole covers I'm getting alot of noise from my drivers door, it sounds like the door latch is loose or something in the door pilar is rattling and creekng. I,ve had it back to Landrover twice now but they do't seem to be able to find the problem.

They probably couldn’t hear anything above all the other rattles and squeaks.

C’mon now, nobody buys a Defender hoping to be cocooned in silky smoothness and quiet comfort (I do so love alliteration), give it another year and all the windows will be rattling or dropping down by themselves, there’ll be banging and crashing from the suspension as you go over bumps, the transmission will be whining and the brakes and steering will do whatever it likes whenever they like.

So what? We all knew that when we bought the d…n things, it’s something rattling about in the door, if the door hasn’t actually fallen off or a lock or mechanism broken, leave it alone and stop wasting your time… ENJOY IT!

I have the same on my passengers side, been meaning to open up the door and look inside, I'm certain a bolt/piece of trim or something has fallen off and is loose inside Cheers, David

Has the same problem. Sounded like someone had dropped a wrench or something somewhere in the post. Check the latch, on mine the plastic cylinder was becoming deformed on passenger and driver sides. I wrapped a length of electrical tape around the plastic cylinder and that turned out to be a good temporary solution while I waited to replace them

After a couple of months the replacements started cracking. Bought 2 x-trouser latches from X-Engineering, installed them and moved them a bit more inward. This was 6-7 months ago, no more rattling from the doors, unless driving over very bumpy hard surfaces

Check that the bolts holding the roof on are present and tight, especially around the drivers side B pillar. Simple test , drive over a bump that causes problem while the drivers window is open and you have your hand out pulling downwards on the roof gutter. Try it!!! Whistle LANDYWATCH

I've given up on rattles on my 2010 Puma. The solution was to stop wearing my hearing aids. Now all I hear is that wonderful diesel noise which I've always loved for some reason.
Never ever buy a Defeaner and expect saloon/sedan car quietness. Very Happy

Ooooo drivers door rattle... Drives me crazy... Mine stops when the window is wound way up, but starts again shortly afterwards when the window is shaken loose by the pot holes... I will get around to sorting it out at some point... Rolling Eyes

I've had a rattle in what I thought was my drivers door pillar for several months.

After tightening all the bolts, it didn't solve it. Even removed trim to see what lurked beneath!!!

After much fiddling, I found my door rattles on the metal assembly the door locks onto when closed and this is transferred up the door pillar. A spray of WD40 on the lock and sorted for a few weeks. Looks like the lock doesn't fully engage properly and needs frequent oil!!
