For my 18th birthday I was lucky enough to be given a car. A brand new 1.2 litre Clio Dynamique in metallic black. It’s been my vehicular pride and joy for 10 years. Since my birthday it’s done 60,000 miles and has taken me as far afield as Vienna.
Nearly a decade on and a new automotive chapter in my life begins. I’ve wanted a Defender for many years but for most of that never thought I would actually own one. Inevitably, I got old, got a job, a partner (now as enthusiastic about them as I am) and realised that I could actually own one. And why not? After much deliberation we decided to make an order at Ripon Land Rover for a Corris Grey 90 Hard Top. A lot of research was done prior to making the order to make sure we got what we wanted. The long wait flew by with delivery a few weeks earlier than initially anticipated. ![]() One tram, two buses, two trains and a chauffeur driven 110 later and we were at the dealer. I already knew that she was waiting outside in the forecourt for us as the tracker had been fitted earlier in the week and I’d been feverishly watching her movements my mobile. I was like a child at Christmas. After completing the necessaries and with just 12 miles on the clock and a full tank of diesel we set off. ![]() Click image to enlarge We had a fantastic drive back home. The weather was great and I even got three ‘Defender waves’ which I was very pleased with. We stopped at Ripley for some ice cream and so I could take some photos of the shiny new vehicle. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge For those interested, here’s the spec: - Defender 90 Hard Top - Brunel Grille and Headlamp surrounds - Corris Metallic Paint - Tow Ball + Electrics - Rear Step Bumper - Ribbed Aluminium Under Shield - Exterior Pack: Body Coloured Roof and Wheel Arches, Roof Appointment Pack, Front Mud Flaps, Side Steps, Rear Folding Step (removed from new for the rear step bumper) - Dual Finish Alloy w/ Continental Conti Cross Contact AT Tyre including front and rear anti-roll bars - All Terrain Anti-lock Braking System/ETC - Cloth Seats - Convenience Pack: Electric front windows and remote central locking - Cold Climate Pack: Heated front seats and windscreen - Cubby Box - Delete Bulk Head - Tracker Thanks for reading. 90 Hard Top ![]() ![]() Oh, you mean the ice cream? ![]() It didn’t last long before the mods started. You may have noticed that the aerial isn’t OEM. It’s a DAB one from DAB on Wheels which, along with a DAB cable, I bought for the dealer to fit and I think it looks great. They made a great job. The 5m cable was overkill though! Here’s a better picture showing the aerial. ![]() Click image to enlarge I’ve also installed the head unit and speakers with lots of help from the forum (thank you! ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge I wouldn’t recommend those particular tweeters to anyone purely on the fit, or lack of. I’ve had to keep the standard LR speaker covers and wire the Alpine tweeters underneath as the Alpine covers are both too big for the hole (although I was happy to Dremmel it to make it bigger) and the surround of the speaker is too big for the puma dash which has a slight bevel around the tweeters meaning there would have been an overhang all around. The 10cm speakers were easier but still not straight forward to mount. For those who also bought a Puma with no radio / speakers and can’t find the wires, I promise they are there, they're just a swine to A: Find, and B: Retrieve. We managed without have to remove parts of the dash though (thanks to Amelia's small and nimble hands). Whilst a pain to fit and lacking in instructions the Alpines do sound good. I just need a sub now. The HU is great too and I’ve setup my iPhone with it which works so well. Having never had in-car BT before I have to say I’m impressed. Mounting the external microphone was fiddly aswell but well worth the effort and the USB cable for charging the phone fits neatly behind the windscreen vent. Items added to spec: - Alpine CDE-136BT CD/DAB - Alpine Sps-110tw 1” Tweeters - Alpine SPG-10C2 2-Way Speakers - Hirschmann AUTA 16 V DAB + 5m DAB cable (1m would have been fine) I’ll do a proper write up of the fitting and post it in the ICE section at some point. :D Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated ![]() |

Did the bumper bolts not come with bolt caps? I thought they normally did (mine did anyway), just makes the bolts blend in better rather than silver on a black bumper
