I was hoping some one would come on with some experience of the Detroit Truetrac, cos thats what i'm looking at rather than the full ARB, Sonic fitted the ARB so he can tell us about that unless he's still stuck in a sand dune Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

I was in the same dilemma. TTrac would be to upgrade somehow the traction performance. An ARB would give you full traction but you would have issues when turning. Depends what sort of difficulties you`ll face. I have 285 tires so I think I`m on the limit for a Ttrac. I do have a rear ARB on my 110".
I imagine a muddy steep curve: I guess I canīt use the rear arb, neither a front one. The choice would be a ttrac unit I guess. For crawling and that sort of fun an ARB would be my choice. Puma 110" SW ............................................................. Earth first. Other planets later |

Most people i have met (unless really going hard core off roading/challenges) say avoid one on the front as they give very little benefit 90% of the time and the steering is an issue.
LSD would be the way i would go if i was going that way with a full ARB/KAM on the back. Mike |

In my 1997 Camel Discovery I had a Detriot Locker in the rear axle and a True Trac in the front axle. I really loved that combination I will transfer them to my 90 when it's ready.
Because the detriot drives the slowest side, It pushes the car to the outside off a roundabout, you can steer against that no problem but if you come off the throttle suddenly the car will want to go to the inside off the roundabout. The first few times it can be scary but you get used to it and if you come off the throttle a little slower there is no problem. the problem i face is that eventually it will be a challenge truck and on road i dont think an lsd in the front is a good idea at least with a locker its either on or off but god knows how many times strong than a standard diff 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs

A LSD (limited slip differential) is OK in the front axle as it doesn't really lock up. Basicly there are 2 types LSD's one with friction plates and the other with gears. Both create resistance when there is a torque input from the engine and a speed difference from the wheels. If you floor it while in a corner you might feel that it want to go more straight then without a LSD but I don't think that would be much.
You do not want an automatic LOCKER in the front axle. As it will put all torque to the front axle to the slower turning wheel that happens to be on the inside and wants to go straight. A more expensive switchable locker can be put in the front axle. Out the Dunes now the rear ARB i fitted made a huge differance in the sand and fech fech. At least with a locker you know its locked when you need it Also helps when recovering D3`s stuck in the dunes |

The detriot locker is also locked when needed and 'unlockes' the wheel that doesn't need torque when cornering. The main advantage off the ARB is in my eyes that you can unlock it.
You might want to have it unlocked on a sideslope. On a sideslope the upper tyre carries less weight and if forward traction is needed it will start spinning first. With a locked axle both wheels will start spinning and you might start sliding sideways downhill.
