 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Stornoway Grey
Long range tanks
Anyone added a long range tank to their 110? if so which ones and what did you consider?

i am considering one that goes in the rear wheel arch and uses the same std filler and then feeds into the main tank.

any suggestions on suppliers? Cheers

I have looked around and am going to go for a wheel arch one- the one I like the most ois from Devon4x4, but as usual it is a little more expensive than some others. From what I remember it is stainless steel, and has a 46l capacity

Not a bad concept, one would assume it acts like a header tank and just keeps the main tank filled???? Only draw back I can see is that it may be that you only know exactly how much fuel you have when the needle starts to drop.

I may be wrong though if it is plumbed in in a cross-feed manner like the old Discovery tanks. Question

If I was still in BFG it would be money well spent if you come back often!

It is as you say above, because it sits above the main tank your needle won't move until you hit about 80 litres, Can be counteracted by fitting a secondary float in the aux tank to another gauge.

Worked it out....13 fills pre-leaving Germany and it pays for itself.....but also means an extra 2 jerry cans before going on the ferry..... so technically about 8-10 fills...... plus the thought of going 600miles without filling!!

Be careful with wing tanks and year of defender plus size of tyres!

Land Rover does subtle changes which can cause problems.

We have a 48 litre mild steel one fitted to our 96 110 which runs on 255/85/R16. On full articulation upwards the tyre/mud stuck in tyre just rubs the wing tank. There is no tank guard for wing tanks so I got mine made with a double bottom.

On our 09 110 Ute we got a stainless wing tank with a double bottom. This 110 also runs on 255/85/R16. We noticed that there would be a problem on full articulation in that the tyres would catch on the tank. Luckily the manufacturers are local and have now modified the wing tank for 09 models. This will be going on later this week hopefully. We also have a 110 litre main tank on the Ute. So will have about 160 litre capacity which should give us a range of up to 1,000 miles on tarmac. Off tarmac that could be down to 500-600 miles

The wing tank works by gravity feeding directly into main tank so no pumps. A balance pipe drains the bottom of the tank.

Cost for a mild steel tank would be £250 + VAT. Stainless would be £285 + VAT (say £335 round numbers) OK carriage is extra! Razz Say £20

Why not a standard 90 pre td5 tank under the driver seat? I don't know how it fits in a 110. I will fit the old tank to my 90 td5 too. Roel

For a 110 that would require some form of pump/crossover valve

i dont really want to go to the hassle of fitting a tdi 90 tank as i would have to move the ABS wiring/ecu thing etc and i would like to keep it as a simple bolt on off as possible.

Leeds - that larger 110 std position tank i take it that it gains its cpacity in depth so does it protrude further down than the std one or is the capacity gained by going up only?

With respect to the wing tanks are those the prices from you in that you can supply them? and can you do the ones for Pumas with the mod you suggest at the same price? Cheers

Yes it goes down as well as up and into all the corners. The rear anti roll bar mounts are lowered.

Don't believe it alters the departure angle. If you like will try and take some more photos but that can't be for a day or two.

The standard Land Rover tow bracket will not fit with this big tank. You will have to consider a rear 2" receiver if you wish to tow.

Yes we can supply them. If you want a good look at the tanks come and have a good poke around our vehicles at Billing.

The price I quoted was for the standard wing tank. Can't see the modification for 09 models onwards altering the price. Double bottom would be an extra cost. Not sure how much but can check. If you are interested pm your requirements and vehicle details and I will check price and availability/delivery.

I moved the ECU higher up inside anyway to prevent water problems. I have both tanks so I just need a pump.
You could build in the tanks that Leeds showed and do the 90 tank so you have even more diesel with you. Roel

Well if you want to go to extreme you could fit

Replacement main tank 120 litres
Wing Tank 48 litres
RHS Pod Tank 66 litres
LHS Pod Tank 56 litres

Makes 290 litres Lets just say I would not want to fill that lot up to often Razz

Would give a range of about 1,800 miles though Razz
