Who to tune?
Without turning this into some sort of fanboy session, I see (at least) two site sponsors that offer to up the oomph of your TD5. What are the relative merits and demerits of either one? Afterall I'm not the first to consider this process, so why not tap into the knowledge of those that have gone before.

Alive is the best for me. Had others but got a nicer tune now. Got them to do other motors for me too, and am very happy with them as well.

I would suggest talking to the tuners, on the phone and see who can give you the time and support you require. Then go to one of the shows meet them face to face, and hopefully get a remap done with a show price deal.

IRB or BAS are renown as THE best two tuning companies out there .......... but like everything, people have personal preference and their own experiances.

You pays your money and you takes your chance ... Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant.

BAS did my 110 TDCI and my partners TD5 disco

The TD5 disco remap made a large improvement on the drivability of the vehicle - not faster or sporty - just more grunt when pulling away and cruising up hills. it is a totally different vehicle now with a big grin on my partners face to prove it! Mr. Green
It was a simple job of slipping the ECU out, popping it in the post to Pete at BAS and he did the biz on the bench, we got it by return of post and popped it back in. Embarassed
Taking into account I am not a mech tech type - it was a simple process
one thing to remember is that you have to disconnect the battery, so make sure you have your codes for radio and alarm before doing so as it may require re-setting afterwards.
I know that the others on here have the same standards and would have any of them do the job. Thumbs Up Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html
Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold

Based on your location:
Patterson Diesel in Cowdenbeath 01383 513057.

My mate was over with his landcruiser and i asked him to get pricing info, was told i would need to call and discuss exactly what i wanted, I wasn't that serious about it so never got round to it, but might be worth a call.

I've had tunes from both IRB and Alive (via an agent) and both have been great.

IRB was more of a day out as I was in the workshop whilst they did all the fiddling, and for the Alive tune I left the Landy with the garage.

IRB tune was probably more 'rounded' with a smoother build-up of power and great for day-to-day use, whereas the Alive tune is a bit more of a wallop with a real rush of power as the revs build - great fun now the 90 is a play-thing Thumbs Up although towing the new horsebox could be a bit of a giggle.......
