Scraping noise from back end on overrun, diff?
Only noticed it the other day when I turned the radio off, can hear like a faint scraping noise coming from the back end of the car when slowing down or going downhill engine breaking, sounds like a brake disc/ pads out put their all fine and it makes no difference if the brakes are on or not? Noticed a bit of an oil leak from what looks like the front oil seal so need to check the level too what oil needs to go back in? Ill check it and top up first but in the mean time any more suggestions as to what it could be?

Could be your transmission brake shoes rubbing.

The oil leak from the diff flange is a common problem, you can buy a kit to fix it.

According to the fitting on that link it say's that won't fit a 2.4 Defender? Perhaps it's wrong?

My 90 does the same as this but only relatively rarely. No Guts, No Glory.
