hylomar can be bad if to much is used as it non setting and excess can come away from the joint inside and block oil pick up strainers ( I have seen this many times I am not guessing ! )
silicone or rtv (much the same thing really) don't tend to come away inside
I prefer rtv

well seal is good but only on well fitting machined surfaces and can fail after a few years of temprature changes

For general purpose use, blue Hylomar. Follow the instructions and you'll have no trouble. If the WSM specifies RTV, then RTV it is.

yes your right
but lots of people always use to much of any sealer and ive seen it knacker some very expensive race engines and auto boxes . and sealer hanging out of a joint looks untidy.
hylomar because it stays soft gets sucked in oil pick up mesh and stays there sucked into wire mesh blocking them . rtv drys so doesn't get stuck into things and tends to stay at the joint its sealing .

general rule is you only need to see the very smallest bead from any sealer pushed out of edge of the joint . if you can just see it pushing out when tightening then its done its the job .. MORE IS NOT BETTER

sorry if it sounds I am telling some people there job .. but for some diy people its advise that may help them.

I just use the RTV I buy from GSF car parts - comes in aerosol cans and seems to be good quality but not expensive.

Use RTV its what Airline Engineers use on Jet Engines......... Series I 86" Petrol orig side valve (daily hack)
VW Tiguan ( bit bland but very comfy )
