I've succesfully used the Milenco mirrors like this:
Click image to enlarge The cable tie was for my own peice of mind on first use but was later abandoned as they worked perfectly. These were fitted to the longer arms that Milenco supply. I did mine like that after looking at threads last year. Should have got the square mirrors rather than the oval ones as they look a bit odd ( that's if square are available)

I use Millenco Grand Aeros (square heads) with convex glass, fixed to my mirror arms. I bought the Millenco extended arms that extend the mirrors out further so that I can see the actual sides of my caravan.

Check that you can see the actual sides of your caravan though, if you want to comply with law/regs etc. Most mirrors including Millencos dont comply when fitted to a Defender straight out of the box.
Saying that though, most police officers probably aren't aware of the law when it comes to towing mirrors unless its a knowledgable traffic cop. Even then they probably arent too interested and would probably just offer advice if they pulled you over. But you only have to be unlucky once, or be involved an a traffic accident that ends up getting investigated. Or stopped by VOSA! Last edited by WarPig on 12th May 2013 1:07pm. As above. Just make sure you secure them to the arms, not the mirror or you'll crack the glass as you tighten it.
Extended arms are a good idea, I only just see the back end of the van. Other thing to look out for if you have a raised air intake is that you'll need to attach the off-side arm to the rear face of the mirror arm (the bit nearest you) otherwise every time you open the door, the end of the mirror will hit the RAI and fold the mirror in. Gets very annoying after a while. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

After reading this thread I decided to get the Milenco mirrors. In general I found they are good, however I dont trust how they attach to the mirror are, especially as one of teh clamps has already started to tear.
I recently decided to install heated mirrors to the 110, but at the same time decided to add Defender mirrors to my 80" too. So I purchased a new set of mirrors and arms, plus a heating kit. While modifying the new arms to take the cables it occurred to me that it would be a good idea to drill the arms to take the boltsfor the Milenco bar clamps. As you can see that this works quite well. Plus it should also stop the annoying folding of my mirror arm when I open the door and it clips the RAI, took me a while to realise why the mirror was always folding in Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge He who dies with the most toys wins Defender 90 & 110, S1 80", Disco 1, S111 88 LRSOC & CVLRC |

That's pretty neat. I'm surprised that you've had a problem with the Milenco clamps though, as mine have been faultless.
I solved the problem of them hitting my RAI by mounting the drivers side mirror on the front of the arm instead of the back. I think I was a little paranoid, so possibly overtightened the one to the outside, that barely sits in the arm, Also wrapped cable ties round for added security.
