had a hub and swivel seal replaced under warranty and now i am getting an intermitant hand brake warning light come on the dash, are brake lines disconnected when replacing a hub and swivel seal?
they also washed my land rover and i was thinking that water may have got into the electris somewhere? |

It is possible that the calipers were disconnected from their hoses in order to replace the swivel seals, although it is not necessary to do so (I can't remember whether the WSM says to do so or simply to hang them up out of the way).
Have you checked the fluid level, it's easy enough to do? If the level is not right up to the max line, you'll tend to get the brake malfunction indicator (HB warning lamp) come on especially if you brake while going down hill, since all the fluid runs to the front of the reservoir. |

cheers Glyn, and Blackwolf, by chance the dealership phoned to check their service quality and i mentioned this item to them. As i am 40 mins drive from them it isn't convenient with work for me to pop in and let them check, so they have called Land Rover assist and arranged an engineer to visit me within the hour!

(will nip down and check the fluid level now) only realised that handbrake dash light would illuminate due to low fluid level from a search on here. |

land rover assist engineer has just checked and driven the vehicle and he believes that the handbrake switch is causing the problem.

I had an intermittent flashing handbrake warning light which was cured by pulling back the lever cover and spraying contact cleaner into the stitch. Problem solved.

the LR assist technician believes that the float switch in the fluid reservoir is being over sensitive as the fluid level was well within working tollerances but when topped upto the max level this cured the problem. He has written a report for me to hand to the dealer next time i'm around instructing them to replace the switch.

Good result........ and well done to the dealership for the top notch service
I thought it strange that the hand brake would start playing up when it hasn't been touched in any way. I think most of the switches in the reservoir are like that. Mine even though it sits 2mm bellow the Max line comes on when braking down steep hills etc. Maybe the dealer would be nice enough to post a switch to you (just the cap with 2 terminations)- will take 2 mins to change. On my 07 DC the light will flash unless the level is bang on the full line. Any lower and it flashes when braking downhill.
Now that I know this I don't worry about it. I am sure that it would be on continuously long before the level reached the min mark. At least it lets you know the switch is working! |

glyn - nice thought about the dealer posting the cap but i'm sure the response will be that it has to be done by a trained LR technician so the warranty is not invalidated
must admit that it is a strange coincidence that it started straight after the hub and swivel seals were relaced. - i did tell the technician that i wasn't a caterham customer and if he need a big hammer to fix the problem that wouldn't bother me  |
