Read about this before, the CPB are clamping down on imports. To bring a Defender into the USA it must be 25 years old and the one in the photos looks to be a tdi, has disc brakes all round, probably on a TD5 chassis.

I understand that they can't resell it because the vin etc had been altered. But why not sell it for parts? I just don't get that.

And that video just really makes me Big Cry

Here is a second video  Scaling the real deal.

They wouldn't bother selling them as parts, as they probably couldn't 100% sort out what was legitimate or not.

And anyway, it sends a clear message out... the WHOLE vehicle will be crushed. the end.

If the vehicle can be broken up, then (as in this country) that leads to corruption and dodgy breakers yards who sell on parts that should be crushed. which then leads to thefts of legitimate vehicles to feed the source of stolen bits, if you get my drift.

I applaud them for destroying dodgy LR's,but they are also looking for LR's with new galvanised chassis, new looking rivit's....in other words rebuilt Shocked , the LR in the picture is a very, very clean example (200/300??) and is defo worthy of an inspection of the vin, engine, chassis, brake/axle, parts,it's a good deterrent knowing they are picking on LR'S.
LMAO tho at the inspection guy carrying a gun Rolling with laughter .

When they are not protecting US citizens from buying fraudulent Defenders without airbags etc. their priority is: (straight from the website) "CBP is one of the Department of Homeland Security’s largest and most complex components, with a priority mission of keeping terrorists and their weapons out of the U.S. It also has a responsibility for securing the border and facilitating lawful international trade and travel while enforcing hundreds of U.S. laws and regulations, including immigration and drug laws."

Guess that's why the guns ...

I don't get it, we live in a world whet4x4 owners are punished for our hobby and yet I'm sure we recycle old cars more than anyone else. In a world that is dying apparently, why wasn't that defender recycled instead of destroyed. That could've kept many other defenders running into dooms day

Ouch.

There's a well known company that specialises in LRs (so well known I can't remember what they're called now, seen them in LR magazines though). But a while back they had what was apparently a 'rebuilt' 110, that was rebuilt on a brand new chassis, brand new 2.4 Puma engine, brand new Puma interior, repainted in Santorini black... in fact, looked pretty much like a 110 you'd buy from a local dealer in the UK.

Just didn't seem legit. Don't think I'm the only one as I'm sure I remember reading something about it on here too.

I honestly can't remember. I can just remember looking at the adverts and thinking that there is no way the Defender is 25 years old.
