The Td5 pump is a submerged 2-stage pump and is fairly high pressure. It is more complex than many and this is reflected in the price.
Are you sure it's the pump at fault? A leak in the low-pressure circuit or filter could conceivably be the problem. |

I changed mine at a cost of (part only not fitting) £475!! And then found out it was the injector seals and washers that cost peanuts so it might be worth changing those first

If/when you do buy a new pump... the "defender" ones are always £100 or so more expensive than the discovery spec ones.
But... the only difference is the float arm... and it just unclips. so save youself some money, get the disco pump, and spend about 30 seconds unclipping the defender arm and clipping it to the new disco pump |

Thanks everyone, I've sent it out to Tayside Landrover and Matthew Webster has ordered a pump for me so I'm kind of waiting with bated breath to see how much it's going to cost.
The shooting season is just round the corner and what I don't need is unreliability, particularly if as occasionally happens someone needs to move my vehicle. if I'd realised it could have been this expensive I would have had a look myself on the basis that all the nuts and bolts have just been out for the chassis replacement so it would have been straight forward. Thanks Diablo someone else will no doubt need your pump. Regards to all DRW Have a good weekend I built a garage for my Mini With a place for everything and everthing in its place. Ten years down the line there's a Mini in there somewhere, and all's where it should be!!!! Ho hum |

I bought a Bearmach one last year.
Swapped it for a genuine part after the noise drowned the engine! |

The oe pumps that i fitted seem to be noisy after I swapped mine. But it's been running for over 3yrs. So I'd say, if noise is the problem, then buy original, if not, stick with what works. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. At 125k for a XS 110 csw and you get to own it only for 10yrs! Please find me a good reason to stay on this island.

Matthew fitted a genuine article, and recommended a new fuel line too, he thoughtfully passed his discount on to me so the whole job was £560 or so including labour and VAT.
So as the title says my TD5 is starting to take on the characteristics of triggers brush £7k plus and counting this year. I bought it as a long term "investment" knowing I'd need to spend money on it, now the main issues have been addressed I want to start on some non essential upgrades spending a little each month leaving enough in the bank balance to keep Swmbo in the manner to which she has recently been accustomed...................Hungry Ok it's late I need to go out and lock the Landy just in case DRW I built a garage for my Mini With a place for everything and everthing in its place. I've spent about the same, NOT intending it to be a long term hold but it's turned out that way.
Following the collective wisdom on here in a recent post, http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic22331.html a fuel pump is my next er, investment, and I'd been looking at VDO units which I thought were OEM at about £250 retail. Is this right and has anyone used them? |

When the fuel pump packed in on my TD5 the LR engineer asked where I drew my diesel from . When I told him " Tesco " he shook his head and told me that was the problem and never use it again . That was 7 yrs ago and BP Ultimate ever since .
