Who to tune my 2.4?
Hi guys,

I've spoken to alive tuning and twisted performance so far and they both boil down to:

Remap and EGR deletion
Exhaust&decat
Hybrid turbo
Intercooler

This should net around 180 BHP and 350 FT/LBS and I won't get change out of 3000 quid.

Alive are quoting cheaper prices and I like their ultimate intercooler more... however after speaking with them both I am leaning ever so slightly more toward twisted as Charlie has given me more confidence.

I have a 2011 110 and I want more poke as it's already pretty damn slow in comparison to Dubai traffic... and now i'm upgrading to 18" Sport alloys with 285/65 BFG A/T tyres it'll surely get worse.

However I do wonder if I would be better off upgrading the engine completely to the 3.2 or is that significantly more expensive?

Who and what would you recommend?

This is just my personal view and experience.

I originally wanted to go with IRB, however i had a lot of trouble getting in touch with Ian before i bought his package. Therefore i decided against it. In the end i went with Pete at BAS, great service from the start, always quick to reply and always very helpful.

I have a full size intercooler, silicone intercooler pipes, De-cat, straight through mid section pipe, uprated turbo and one of Pete's tunes which closes the EGR. I have noticed around a 10C drop in temperature, increased MPG and better performance.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Mark

i think hes making it very clear that its a personal choice lol.

my best guidance on choosing a tuner is to find out what they provide and match it to what you want. simple as that and then when they tie on offerings go with the cheapest, most popular or the one with the best sticker for your bonnet

As above, who ever you use make sure they can provide proof of what you are actually going to get.

I would want to see proper rolling road/dyno graphs... And not just a figure plucked out of the sky or a curve made up on excel.

Any graph that shows you that the vehicle made exactly what LR claim before it was tuned should also be taken with a pinch of salt.

Sorry, but I disagree slightly...

Any engine tuning work should be done as whole package - I've no idea if another tuners parts would work with my calibration. Using intercoolers as an example, there are huge differences in volume, efficientness etc and I tune to suit the characteristics of my cooler. Whilst some people claim there intercoolers are the best available it doesn't necessary mean they are and especially if I work them in a different way.

The problem comes if you tuned a vehicle with other peoples parts - who is to blame if the performance doesn't meet expectations? The person selling the intercooler would claim its the tuning, and the person doing the tuning would blame the intercooler supplier - the same thing also applies to exhausts, air intakes, turbo's etc.

Lighting for example wouldn't be so bad as your not going to get direct interactions if you fit two brands of spotlight.

If you start chopping and changing engine tuning parts, you will always end up with a compromise, rather than an optimum solution.
