Almost certainly - it'd be too much of a coincidence otherwise. Is your 300tdi one of the later ones with an ECU? Darren

I think so judging by these leads...

I didn't know any of the 300 TDi's had ECU's, you live and you learn !
What does the ECU do ? Edit: Purely out of interest I've Googled 300TDi ECU and I can't find anything to suggest they had one - are you sure LA ? Last edited by Go Beyond on 1st Aug 2013 10:20am. Edited 1 time in total |

Pretty sure that plug would have gone to the EGR thingummy

Later 300tdi's did have an electronically controlled fuel pump. I believe it was part of measures to give auto Discoverys a bit more oomph, as it enabled a degree of 'tuning'. All pretty crude by todays' standards, but if that's been zapped then it may explain the problems that Steve now has. Darren

Only on Discos not Defender and I think only on Auto discos but not sure
The wire under the seat/cubby is for the EGR ECU. Defender had mechanical pumps. Seems unlikely your heated window could interfere with the Engine unless the wire that was off was flicking against the stop solenoid and shorting that? |

This is the wire that had come loose and was touching the other wires
Click image to enlarge I drove it to the garage today, but whilst everything seemed back to normal, the engine continued to rev high when lifting foot off accelerator pedal. And heres my fuel pump.... Have you got an immobiliser?
Could have been ground and knacking stuff, grounding it would explain a smell |

It is fused but strangely the fuse looks fine to be honest.

In theory grounding that wire shouldn't do anything to your engine. It's mechanical (and a bit ace )
In reality, it may have done a few odd things, the only ones I can think of are an immobiliser and the stop solenoid. Fix it back in to it's multi-plug, solder it and tape it. If it never happens again then you've fixed it. If it happens again you've ruled out the heated window as the cause. Either way you're in a better place. |

Probably worth getting a new lift pump and carrying it and the tools to change it.

Update- the garage have diagnosed a kinked accelerator cable which has been replaced. Thos would explain tbe revs sticking on.
Quite bizarre how this problem presented itself at the same time as the windscreen switch. I'm scratching my head, but as long as its repaired I'm happy. So I'm assuming the faulty switch caused the wipers to slow down, not sure why the engine cut out and wouldn't restart, but the kinked cable would explain the revs. |
