sorry, not sure where exactly the crack is you refer to

(havenīt seen any crack on my 1year old Puma anywhere. But I turned to not looking too closely. Too many witness of the §%§##-build quality if I did Smile This way I sleep better).

I have just had a similar noise on my 11 plate, it turned out to be a loose bolt that keeps the drivers side floor down, tightened up and all quiet again, hope your problem is as easy to sort out.

Where did you locate the scew for the drivers side floor? I have 3 annoying me right now.

1 i know is the passenger side seat. its loose and moving about. Need to tighten it down.

2. is the dash. The steering column isnt on straight (aren't they all) and the left side is pressing up on the dash and causing a creak.

3.i have a feeling it could be the bolt on the floor.

The bolt I needed to tighten was on the floor below the handbrake, just needed to remove carpet and then get someone to hold the nut from underneath the vehicle while tightening up from cab, if you have loose bolts suggest you tighten them all first before looking elsewhere, as noises on defenders can be misleading and sometimes difficult to pinpoint.
