Are seats like these just a rip off, don't mean to offend anyone here, but I am very new to a lot of this, the seats on ebay were 200 squids a pair for racing buckets....

There will be a vast chasm between the quality of the cheapest bucket seats you can find on eBay, and a set of Exmoor Trim modulars. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I put a pair of these in the 110 Hardtop, got them for £400 unused with the side mounts on pistonheads
Half an hour job to remove the old seats and fit the new side mounts / seats in. They're obviously fixed in position with no adjustment possible. I mounted them as far back as the bulkhead would allow and they fit me perfectly. Anyone 6ft or higher would struggle to get comfortable however. they work fine with the existing seat belts as I find the harnesses too restrictive. It's a faff getting access to the underseat compartments however as you have to undo the 4 bolts holding the seat into the subframe. Have therefore fitted a heavy duty 'anderson' connector to the battery in case I need to jump start someone and don't now need to remove the seat.... will take some snaps at the weekend of them in situ. Forgot to mention, I also put a smaller steering wheel in as access is a bit tight with the standard wheel due to the high bolsters on the seats. I did have a slightly larger mechanic get stuck in there last time it was in for some work and required assistance to get back out

A trick I have seen several times (admittedly only on Series Ones and Twos) when aftermarket seats are fitted is to cut an access hole in the side of the seat locker to access the contents. You might have to be a bit careful on a Defender due to the limited clearance between the door trim and the seat box, but it should work ok.

Maybe worth a trip to your local Land Rover dealer and sit in a Puma with standard seats to see how the correct seat without the 20 + years of use that yours have had actually feel like.
You maybe pleasantly surprised, if so, you can retrim your own seats with new foam (and add heaters) or sell on and replace with a set of Puma seats. The advantages are you don't have to struggle in and out of a bucket seat, you can still access the under seat lockers, installation is a simple four bolts out / four bolts in, when you come to sell the truck it doesn't look 'messed' with My 2p worth |

I recently swapped over the bases on my driver and passenger seats and the difference is amazing. A re-foam of what was my drivers seat base is now on the cards. Darren

They're essentially the same. I think what Matt was getting at was just to try a seat that isn't worn out to see what a difference it makes. Darren
