heated mirrors
Are the 24 volt mirrors that are for sale on ebay etc, suited to a 12v land rover, ie can they be used with some modification.

And how are they fitted. 2010 Defender 130 HCPU

The heated bit is usually only a stick on element behind the glass, so you could remove the glass, take the 24v element out and fit 12v ones?

Although.... i suppose if you just stuck 12v through a 24v element, it would just only heat up half as hot as it should. might still demist the glass, just twice as slow.

May be you can modify the heating element, i.e. like splitting the element in 2 parts (make a isolated part in the middle) and then supply the feed in pararallel. This way you have 12 V over the half of an element, which would have the same effect as 24 V over one whole element. Cheers, Vincent

Half Volts will result in 1/4 of the power not 1/2 the power - might still work but will be far less effective

Question

This way you put the same volts across each half element - which is effective the same as putting double volts across one whole element.

... Or do I miss something? Shocked Cheers, Vincent

No if you can split the element into two equal sectiona and apply 12v across each half you;ll be back to full power
