There are three bolts that hold them on and can be easily removed. Croytec and others do supply after market anodised ones. I have a set and they are resilient and good quality.
If you're after a set of OEM ones to get sprayed I have a set in Stornoway that will need blasting and coating if your're interested. (PM me). I also replaced the door hinges as they look tired after a few years too. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Hi Steve,
I did this last year, just purchased spare parts and polished them up. Then jus put them on with extra window sealer, i have just done the old set in black now for a change. Parts I purchased were: MUC7911 BRACKET 12.95 MUC7912 BRACKET 14.07 MXC9982 GASKET 0.60 MXC9983 GASKET 1.32 Yes they are handed  110XS CSW TD5. |

In three years (as it's classed as paint) it's possibly two warranty trips if you've the time and don't mind the inconvenience of it all?
You have the right idea, swap it out for superior products or sought it yourself....you'll have to in the end anyway!  If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

That's your choice I suppose, but if you do that with everything your ownership will become even more expensive than it will be already!

If it's only 2 months old and bubbling
 I would take it back and let the dealer sort it.
You don't want them saying, something you have done has affected the warranty later on if you have another problem!! 110XS CSW TD5. |

thanks for the replies so far.
There is no problem getting it done under warranty but they need the car for at least two days to do and the paint shop is not on site and I feel it would come back worse than before they had it. I am considering either buying the parts as there not to expensive and saying for them to spray them free of charge and ill fit them at home. or just getting the parts and spraying them myself to save on the hassle. I was just hoping that someone might know a supplier who can just supply them already painted to fit straight on. there is a line between what should be done under warranty and how much of a pain it will be to get it done. I am trying to keep ownership fun and avoid the problematic hassle of owning a new defender. |

Mine were done as a warranty claim. Within 4 months they are far worse than when it went in. Sort it yourself, properly. That's what I intend to do.

I'm thinking of getting mine blasted and powdercoated black.
FWIW, mine were sprayed from being shotblasted (as was all of the bodywork on the 110) when I built it, and there's corrosion spots on quite a lot of it. Although that is partly to do with the (shoddy) job the spray shop did, but even then it was 10x better than LR do at the factory!  |

Steve E, the body shop used by Stratstone Cardiff is part of the Evan Halshaw dealership in Merthyr and I have had dealings with them regarding corrosion around the L lower windscreen frame. They did a good job that I couldn't fault. Bernard is the boss and kept me upto date on progress. They also gave me a separate 3 yr guarantee on their work, separate to any Land Rover warranty. Be warned however, if you do change the hinges yourself then any windscreen/bulkhead leaks or corrosion warranty claims will not be accepted by Land Rover, unless you do an identical replacement that they cannot detect. If the corrosion is there then I would suggest leave it until the next service or until it gets too obvious. You've paid for the warranty and I would suggest using it. That's my opinion for what it's worth. Have fun, enjoy you're Defender.

Thanks for the advice with stratstone Paul. Was it bubbling paint on the seems of the windows frame you had. They did tell me if I touched it the warranty would be void. I think leaving things till the first service is probably best and I thank you Paul for putting my mind at ease with regards to the Merthyr spray shop.
