A full day of Landy pampering today...

Masked off the ARB winch bumper, removed the HID driving lights and indicators, did a bit of gentle rubbing down and then applied a few light coats of this new-fangled Halfords Truck Bed liner paint to it.

Seems to provide quite a nice finish and nearly matches the slightly mottled powder-coat-over-galv finish on the Safari Equip bits and bobs elsewhere on the 110. Not sure how it will last but it's tidied up the front end nicely.

In between coats of that, I gave the Webasto a full 'from-cold' test to see if my handiwork replacing the dead water pump had made any difference to its performance. The last couple of years it has struggled to heat the 110 up but this mornings test had the temperature gauge at just below half-way (i.e. normal running temperature) in about 15 minutes. So that water pump may have been slowly expiring for ages.

After lunch in the garden (a huge bacon butty and pint of tea) I washed the tandem and SWMBOs carbon summer bike and then washed and (I don't know what I was thinking) polished the 110. My arms are aching now...

Than, just in the style of Land Rover stewardship noticed that the offside rear door handle had a bit of movement. Stripped the door card off, attempted to tighten the door handle screw and it just span - the brass insert was spinning in the handle. Fashioned a replacement from a M8 stainless bolt and put it all back together again.

Finally I popped the HID driving lights and indicators back on and gave everything that wasn't polished already a goodly dollop of ACF-50.

Dinner will be taken in the garden this evening, and its just possible beer may be involved... Dave

Fitted a glove box into the wasted space above the passenger grab handle.

I like pictograms and a few word of explanation as a reference but poor quality photos and a foreign language make it hard.I may have to change the screws in the hinges to pop rivets at a later stage.

Fitted car quality carpet to the metal bits to prevent the rattles from keys etc. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

[list=]After a quick look at the reason my 12N socket was being a little erratic with the messages to the people following whatever trailer I was towing at the time, I took the decision to rip it off and start again. Went out and bought a new socket, took the old one off and disconnected the loom from the plug up behind the fog light.
Got out the Haynes book of lies for the wiring diagram so that I could marry up all the right 7 wires from the 10 that were there. At least now I know where there is another feed for a fog light, the auxilliary power source and a feed for a reversing light.
All now taped up and refitted, all seems to be ok, I'll find out tomorrow afternoon when I retrieve my youngest from Scout Camp next door to the West Midland Safari Park as I have to bring the Scouts camping trailer back, there was easily 2.5t of Ifor Williams box trailer when I took it on Thursday so I hope they've eaten well!

Got my Memory Map up and running on my laptop yesterday along with a GPS dongle and went for a quick drive round and with only a couple of times loosing signal it was working well, now need to make up some bracketry to make it useable in the motor. Got up in the loft and dug out a tv wall bracket that seems to be made for the job, just fabricate an arm to attach it to the seat fixings and the jobs a good'un Thumbs Up[/list]

cleaned the interior for the first time in a long time.

Man what a filthy pigsty it was. Boiled sweets stuck here there and everywhere. Mouldy crisps, wotsits McFlurry containers under the seats. Had to get a roll of selotape to get the hair off carpet as you'd need a million watt vacuum to get that off. I was truly shocked at the state of it when you see everyone elses immaculate Defenders. There was this blue powdery stuff everywhere where my eldest daughter just tipped her makeup box out and left it there. Kids are just such mucky sods Evil or Very Mad

First step in trying to stop the water dripping on my right knee, resealed the roof joint.

Removed Cubby box which was not a problem as when it was fitted (factory?) they hadn't bothered to use the rivnuts which were in the wrong place or the recessed holes in the box instead they drilled new holes through the steel plate underneath and used mastic to hold the bolts in place. I wondered why it rocked from side to side. Spent the afternoon drilling plate and fitting new rivnut in the correct place. Now got burnt neck and scalp. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Fitted my newly acquired Safari equip swing away spare wheel carrier. Woohoo, no more rattling rear door. Nice piece of kit.

Also, swapped front wheels to rear and vice versa, got rid of the horrible wheel wobble at 60mph. Still pulls to the left slightly and that's after getting the tracking sorted for the third time yesterday. I wish I could figure out why it still wanders to the kerb Confused

Rusty - are you sure you haven't got an un-even load / or tyre pressures need checking one low especially on the front or one side could cause a big of pull I'd have thought.





Spent 3/4 of the day on mine so 11am to 6pm or there about only having a break or two in between. Mostly spent cable routing. Rolling Eyes It's a thankless task but it's got to be done! Only done about 50% of what I want to do though even now. Whistle $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Tidy up
Well with the lovely weather i managed to get the steering guard off sanded back to metal primed up and sprayed, then the air vents with a huge battle i got the pins out flatted the covers down and resprayed then replaced with new stainless steel pins.

So now half of my sig is a lie and the 90 soft top with filthy interior, crunchy gearbox, 3 seats and more leaks than a max Boyce concert is promoted to main car/motorway cruiser status

Until 11:30 when I pick up my new (to me) 110 Smile

C 2015 110 USW XS in Santorini with premium contrast leather seats in tan/black, black headlining and with Dual Finish alloys (in the garage, now on Wolf rims with Goodyear MT/Rs)

2012 '62' 2.2 X-Tech 110 USW now gone ...
1984 90 soft top with full roll cage, 200 tdi engine etc now sold
2012 USW XS 2.2 "FUU" now gone....
