De-stone picked my KM2's tyre tread. So many bit's of grit and pebbles / small stones. Even a tiny bit of glass. Found a bit of barbed wire fence (A barb spiked bit to be precise) in my tyre tread on the Rear NS Came straight out no problem at all and no puncture. KM2's 1 Puncture 0 GG's would have have punctured for sure or any car tyre. But not the KM2's. Good job I found it though... Always worth checking one of your most important components. KEEP CALM AND Drill ON

Had a wander round the lanes of Somerset and Dorset with a couple of good friends
The bank on the left had a gate in it - according to a passing local it was a potato store. Got stopped in the car park of Morrisons to give a chap in a VW estate a jump start. I think he was a bit surprise by the fact I didn't lift the bonnet or expose a battery for the jump leads, wonderful thing having an Anderson plug on the front bumper.! 1999 Defender TD5 110

Some more pictures to add to Bob's
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge In answer to would you take a new LR down the lanes we went yesterday then my answer is yes, the car is perfectly capable. Its down to the owner to learn to love their character building scratches To be honest there are many lanes that are open and afford drop dead gorgous views, but to properly enjoy them remember you are driving a Defender not something like my neighbours overly polished Audi that will only go back back anyway once the lease agreement runs out! As Mark said, any Defender could do the lanes but you will get battle scars, especially on the Somerset lanes as they can be very tight. Once into Dorset they open up and damage risk is minimal. There was only one more difficult bit (the one I referred to as the log run) where a very large tree had been cut down on a steep downhill section. To make life really exciting the side the tree had been removed from had washed out badly so the vehicles were leaning at quite an angle into the tree stump. Somebody had placed large logs into the wash out to try and level it out, which helped but the ground was wet and muddy so the logs were slipping about quite a bit. I went down first and dislodged at least one log as did the vehicle that followed. When Mark came down he had to get out and reposition the logs to get past the stump safely. I am not giving the exact route we went on as one area, which we did NOT do, has been trashed by irresponsible people and the local residents are up in arms about it. Luckily, somebody I work with lives in that area and warned me about the problem hence the reason we avoided it. The lanes are very quiet, apart from walkers and people with dogs, who were all very friendly, and we only saw two other 4x4's and a handful of trail bike riders all day. Refitted gearbox tunnel and rubber soundproof matting on seatbox, footwells and floor. Then found puddle of coolant on rear of valley gasket
Air cleaner and bracketry removed and puddle mopped up to try and see where leak is from. Possibly weeping when engine cools Its a Later V8 with heater hoses running along rocker cover, so not from there and not leaking from thermostat at front and running back |
