Hi Seb, I dont drive fast and have a brownchurch on all the time, normaly get 200miles by the half tank mark, but on a long steady run like the one this week I got over 230 at the half tank mark, then got the ping ar 420 - so would expect that it would go to about 450 -460 miles ... but not that brave to test it out! Couldn't do the milage going up to aberdeen as I was towing a 17 foot speed boat with engine - did really well till the wheel fell off the trailer at manchester so the AA took it the rest of the way! We have ours on all the time too and don't go much over 70. This trip we had sister-in-law in convoy behind us in her Kuga frightened of overtaking, the fast lane and anything over 65, so that kelt me in check. Good job she's got an Evoque on order for December. |

Today has had its ups and downs....
High point: Exploring the numerous trails around the Troodos mountains, I even got truckers red arm Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Low Point: I guess it was only time before she let me down. Infamous Vacuum pump seal has given up on me after 26,000 miles. Now I need to work out which will be cheaper. Driving to the other side of the island to get it repaired under warranty, or ordering one online with special delivery postage and do the job myself. Look on the bright side, at least the underside of your bonnet is now rust proofed.

Is there anyone who hasn't had to replace their vacuum pump at some point? Or is it like the oil in the ECU thing on Td5's, everyone will get it at some point? I've done 37k now and still on the original.

I think everyone at some point will get it. I had no problems in UK and Germany where it was never really dusty (I was away with work during summers) but out here it is dusty all the time- especially once out on on the trails, so looks like it got in there. I wish I was ready for it. Thanks to GREENI I have now found a replacement pump (new type) and gasket for a snip over £90 delivered. I was lucky to be close to home- If you do off-road/ expeditions I would highly advise getting a newer type and keeping it in the back just in case, otherwise you could end up abandoning the car to prevent the oil running dry- the change looks like it can easily be done in the field. One thing that sucks is that I had a 3-4 day trip planned for Sunday onwards. Looks like I will be sitting by the door waiting for the postie!... Oh well, maybe do it next month instead. Glyn |
