Replaced the drive belt with a new one. I think the squeak has now finally been cured. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Steveww - The DIN cages are sharp too, many have been made more rigid and slimmer towards the locking aperture for that reason so they aren’t rattling.
But as I said they can have some sharp edges it be careful of as well<especially cheaper ones. JoolsB - Ah yes, the wipers job is a big one. I had the joys of that last year. I am relieved it’s over and not a job that is often required to be done! Excossack - Not too bad a job to do that one, they do make some noises. I saw an interesting article the other day regarding alternator whine and noises via audio system. (Which isn’t the issue you had I doubt, probably externally audible from itself. Anyway, the belt was creating static charges, and that was being mirrored upstream with every revolution, and that was causing static electric charges, pulses upstream, and back up to the audible system. I don’t know what vehicle it was or anything like that, but was interesting alll the Sam exit was in the States. The guy had tried all sorts to try and find it, checked everything but a new serpentine belt sorted it out. There wasn’t even any issue with the Alt, or any other component other that it was picking up static. I suppose a RF choke or ferrite ring or clip may have been useful though. Thanks C90. Hopefully all solved now...Well until the next noise appears. Time will tell.

The series three being 42 years of age is exempt (40 years of age makes the exemption kick in) thank God! It used to be a nightmare with the braking imbalance. Failed once on a braking imbalance of 7%. Stopped great but the technology was saying there was an imbalance. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Tidied up the rear end!
Crossmember cleaned down to metal and hit with buzzweld products. New mudflaps. Internal gwyn Lewis mud shields. All bolts replaced with stainless and tub to crossmember bolts used with correct grease to help prevent any corrosion. Click image to enlarge |

80 mile round trip yesterday, never missed a beat.
Today took all the wheels off, greased the DM’s, all okay with those, none dry which is good and now re-lubed. Checked brake pads life also, plenty there. Noticed two of the pad springs on the front callipers, that one on each side out of each two per side, had managed to get into the brake pad aperture on the pins rather than sitting butt up against it. (It, being the pad and its aperture / hole). Managed to carefully tease them out and they then sat against the area they should do butt up against the brake pad backing, they are there to push the pads away from the disc, though even when new they aren’t that strong then they aren’t meant to be. With them like that, will mean the pads will sit close to the pad, perhaps a bit more than they should and add some drag and u wanted heat and thus a bit more fuel consumption for no good reason none of which would be great. Perhaps might be a good idea to fit new calliper pins and springs. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
