One of my mates was down from Stoke with his boys so best mate, fellow godfather, and Defender owner Andy and I took them off roading on the farm in a particularly boggy field then finished with a rinse off in the ford that runs past my house.

Ordered a couple of parts after the Defender returned from a main dealer 36k service with them broken
Okay it was only the plastic covers over the wiper spindles but for goodness sake how clumsy do you have to be to break those? Together with being misled over what had been during a warranty claim[1], forgetting to tighten the nuts on the clutch master cylinder nearly leaving us stranded in Lyon with a caravan on the back, wiring the towbar electrics incorrectly and finally attempting to undertake unneeded[2] warranty work that's the last time I ever entrust our Defender to a main dealer. They just don't care anymore about Defenders and it really shows now. We're not their market these days and they'd rather be arranging expensive finance deals on the shiny baubles in their highly polished showrooms. They charged £500 for an what is effectively an oil change but that's all right, they gave it a 'complimentary' wash and interior clean. They'd made such a poor job of washing it (what did they use, a broom?) that I washed it again yesterday and did the job properly. I don't get easily worked up about anything at all - I'm the voice of calm and reason at work - but by gum this main dealer has managed it. [1] I asked them to replace the intermediate (output) shaft between the main and transfer gearboxes, which they assured me they'd done - and greased it well. Turns out they hadn't done it at all - by their own admission - after I pointed out that the parts were missing off the warranty bill. [2] 'Wear in rear drive flanges' - when they had already replaced them with the impossible-to-wear one-piece versions 12,000 miles before. Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |
