Hallo all Puma owners,
I need some help please. The Landy is going in for a couple of issues. Please see my list below. I was being as diffucult as i can be to point out the issues. Feel free to point out other potential issues that are common or that i need to look out for. I really would like the dealer to sort everything out one-time. 1 oil on front and rear drive shafts, shaft seal ? 2 2nd gear difficult to engage, crunches 3 rust all over the vehicle, at injectors, nuts and bolts 4 jack not securely mounted on floor 5 door seals bent, not functioning properly 6 passenger rubber above battery badly damaged from new 7 foot well rubber mats don’t cover bolts 8 bolts behind front seat don’t alight there are gaps, looks like the hole is too big for the bolt 9 metal work underneath front seats heat up 10 clunking sound from drive train when changing gears 11 new grinding whine sound coming from the engine bay after 4500km in the higher rev range 12 backlash or dif notice when coming off accelerator at 100km/h and above, sounds like it is coming from the rear 13 transfer lever jumps out of Low diff lock when doing bouncing slippery 4x4 hill climb 14 after being stationary for a couple of hours in low range, I then switch high range and about 1kms later it jumps out of gear with no drive and I have to stop and reselect H 15 roof paint in the rails and roof joints are cracking and coming off 16 sometimes when you let go of the clutch in neutral the drive train clunks 17 brakes grind just before vehicle comes to a halt 18 bolts/screws missing in frame between front and rear seats 19 the heater is only on or off, no middle setting 20 I can hear a rattle coming from the back when going over bumps in the road, only sometimes. Sounds like it is on a axle 21 after standing in heavy rain I noticed a water leak passenger side on the middle console, looks like rust water Puma 110 sw White No extras yet. |

Well I can answer some.
3 rust all over the vehicle, at injectors, nuts and bolts sadly that is "normal" 8 bolts behind front seat don’t alight there are gaps, looks like the hole is too big for the bolt Sounds like the infamous Land Rover "Build tolerance" (i.e. no two bolt together quite the same) 9 metal work underneath front seats heat up This is normal, always have done this irrespective of the engine fitted (and series motors are just the same) 10 clunking sound from drive train when changing gears Sounds about right, there is lot of mechanical bits whirring round down there after all 16 sometimes when you let go of the clutch in neutral the drive train clunks See 10 above 19 the heater is only on or off, no middle setting This too seems to be normal. 10 and 12 will be loose rear prop bolts
13 make sure its engaged properly and slow down |

Hi Niel,

Regarding no. 14. When going from low range to high range on my tdi, when I have engaged high range I let it move a yard or two then dip the clutch and give the transfer lever a pull backwards to make sure it is fully engaged. Sometimes it takes a few turns for everything to mess and line up correctly. I have been doing this as a matter of course now for years and it is not a problem. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
