Now managed to find a work around for the cable routing issue without drilling or routing up to the engine bay. I've made a small hole in a 99% non visible area in the rubber boot and took it out before going into the recess and under the mat to where I want it. It's pretty much invisible and I haven't had to drill so quite happy now. Smile
Will post a photo later so it's more clear what I've done.

Saves drilling anything and is nearly completely invisible once the matting is back in place and the retaining strip back on. I put it slightly to the side of the tubing part of the rubber boot rather than in where it mounts into the body (where it would have been even more hidden) I have done it this way as I didn't like the idea of the wires being crushed between the rubber boot and the body metal so thought this way was much better. The wires are only very small so if they would have chaffed on the metal (Highly likely IMO!) they could easily short this way they aren't bent too much and they are also still protected. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Argh, this just reminded me I should have posted up a couple of pics, sorry Steve.

The wire goes from the door through the rubber conduit, up and out of the hole for the interior light switch and sits behind the rubber trim. The interior light switch pops back in no problem as there is plenty of space for the cable and switch body.

Job done and no cable in sight :)

I did think of that but my worry would be the wires chaffing on the body where it is effectively crushed between the switch and body. (Unless I am missing something) It's also not an option to have the switch loosely fitted as it's the earthing point for the doors so a poor earth will mean problems with the alarm system.
All in all as I have got it currently I am more than happy with. At least both options avoid drilling. Mr. Green $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Rolling with laughter Wish I had. Busy day just got in from work, started 6am this morning. Few steering/propulsion issues (along with typing obviously) on the catamarans. Sorted now though.

This thread has got me thinking. Passengers always struggle to find the handle and something like this might be quite cool. Any thoughts on running a timed relay off the hand brake switch? Its not how fast you go, it's how little you slow down!

Yep, That would work or tap a relay off of the lighting cirucit? You'd only need it in the dark anyway so would make sense.
I'm personally going for power off of the interior lighting system but wouldn't be ideal for your intended use. Thumbs Up $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Another idea perhaps is use a standard relay and earth trigger it via the hand brake. Take your power from the lighter socket so it's ignition switched and also use the same power for the relay trigger. but connect the relay earth trigger to the handbrake.
So on a standard normally open 4pin relay:

30 lighter +
87 LED's +

85 To handbrake switched -

86 lighter +

___________________________________

30 & 86 have the same power source. Handbrake being the switch.

(This is assuming it is possible to use the handbrake in this way***) $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Hoping to have a pop at fitting in my wiring today if I get the chance or at least routing it. I shall see if I can put it in without removing the head lining after all. If at a later date I want to or have to remove it I don't want to have to take the headlining out every time to do so. There is a nice recess between the top of the door rubber and headlining that holds a couple of small wires well which is where my BT mic wire runs.

Well progress of above I finished that day and that can be seen on page 5 & 6 Here.
