Original vents still in place. Ran tubing from heater box straight to dash end. The mod has been covered many times on this forum. Effectively does the job of the MUD UK mod but lots cheaper.

Right now they are just holes as I've been looking for a trim to finish it off. Maybe there is a LR part as in the new Defender, that one is square with louvres. Will look into that.

Hi Chipmunk
Sounds a great idea to me especially for my TD5 Have you got some photos? How did you plumb into the air supply, T off the windscreen demister feeds I assume? He who dies with the most toys wins Defender 90 & 110, S1 80", Disco 1, S111 88 LRSOC & CVLRC |

Afraid it's all back together again and I didn't photo it but if you do a search with "side demisters" on here it will come up with a couple of versions of how to do this. The MUD UK kit includes new vents with T's off to the sides. Others say that the kit works well (as it should at over £100) and would be much simpler to fit. But with a bit more effort you can run tubes from the heater box below the centre console to the dash ends and have the same result for £5.
I used silicone to seal the joints at both ends. Aquarium tubing 3/4ins is heavily ribbed and sort of screws into holes you drill into the heater box and dash ends, then apply silicone to seal. IMO taking air supply from the heater box may give slightly higher volume of air than 'sharing' air to the screen vents by 'T' piece. But up until now I've not even had the heater fan on full and the side windows stay mist free. |
