I had an issue on Friday with mine in the windscreen of my Motorhome and being charged at the same time. It kept coming up saying SD Error, however, I put this down to it over heating with it being above the dash vents with the heater on full blast.

Took it off charge and it was fine.

Not returning that as a warranty as I would expect it to overheat in those conditions. Craig Rogers

Yep, I would also expect it to overheat in those conditions. Mine was fine for first couple of months but as soon as I started to use it on a regular basis as a dash-cam it started to play up. I have identified that my sandisk microSD to be under performing as well, class 10 should have a write speed of 10mb/s or higher, mine is currently running at 8.56mb/s which would cause the camera to freeze as there is no buffering function on these camera's, so they are going back as well, Sandisk have openly accepted that a batch of 32 & 64gb cards went out faulty, so hopefully they will be replaced FOC. The main issue I have is the camera shutting itself off and severe overheating, I have been in contact with gopro tech support and they told me to carry out firmware reset and update but none of this helped. Now to wait and see how it all pans out, I have in no way thought a bout refunds or anything like that because I still feel these are the best camera's out there Thumbs Up Optimists say the glass is half full..

I've not had any problems with mine, I updated the firmware once - I have a hero 3 B/E and the bacpac battery, I ran it for 7-8 hours each day in Norway - downloading to a laptop each evening.

I have changed the settings to 1440x1080 rather than attempt 4k. i used the plastic skeleton shell with the gaps (ie not the water proof one). I had mine mounted in the windscreen above/behind the vents but on a ram mount so that it was 150mm back from the screen. I have a ram mount fitting that grips on the hand rail, then an extension arm then the tripod mount. This also allowed the camera to be charged on-the-run using a 12v/usb adapter.

I did have problems with the sandisk sdxc SD card, I had a 64gb one, it failed after 1 day, swapped out for the same but a 16gb model and the 64gb was replaced .. all good now. It's worth noting the 64gb SDXC cards are formatted FAT64, you can get format apps to do this - don't format on your pc ... Someone told me there was a bad batch of sdxc cards knocking about .. sandisk cards are guaranteed for life.

There was an excellent link on the forum about how to set up the gopro .. i worked from that

What were you doing when it was overheating ? time-lapse, video ??

I was recording in 1080 50fps, I also had the battery bacpac on, both batteries fully charged and it lasted 40 minutes Shocked both batteries dead Shocked I am running the latest firmware as of 04-04-13, I am using the waterproof case as it's the only one I have, I have it mounted on the dash, but that shouldn't drain both batteries in 40 mins.
I put the camera on the desk yesterday with no case, it recorded ok but was still very warm to touch. Gppro have asked me to send it back which I think I will be doing, if they test it and it is ok then it must be the cards Big Cry Optimists say the glass is half full..

Are you 100% certain that the cards are genuine? These days I only buy from trusted sources after getting a couple of fakes. They were off Amazon and weren't cheap either. Craig Rogers

To help avoid the known freezing issues....

Never connect via USB to computer.
Always charge straight from mains or mains powered USB hub.
Don't use Sandisk 64gb cards.
Always format the card in camera, never on computer.

All known issues, shouldn't be so, but it is.

You can never be sure anything bought of the tinterweb is genuine unless bought from the manufacturer Whistle
I bought these cards from Amazon and they were cheap, the packaging looked genuine enough, I have sent the serial numbers off to sandisk so if they are fake I expect the serial numbers to be fake as well, if sandisk say they are fake then I will be on to Amazon requesting full refund. The fake ones usually fail dismally on h2testw but these cards are only slightly under spec. Optimists say the glass is half full..

Some very good observations, but what about mega battery drain and overheating? Optimists say the glass is half full..

when I bought the bacpac battery i received a waterproof and a skeleton case ... you should have both if it's genuine, do you have a small lcd screen on the back of the battery ?

my new 64gb sandisk is fine - is the note about not using the 64gb san disk cards a recommendation or an observation ?

Yes, my bacpac has got the lcd display and it did come with a skeleton back door, which until now haven't even thought of using, what I meant was, I haven't got "the frame" yet which would help with the overheating.
re: 64gb sandisk cards, a lot of Gopro users have had a lot of problems with the larger capacity cards and they say to stay away from them Shocked if you go over to this forum http://www.goprofanatics.com/forum.php there is a wealth of knowledge of all things gopro Thumbs Up Optimists say the glass is half full..

I can't answer that, but your not alone. Most users of the H3B agree it was released sooner than it should have with regards to quality control/testing.

I'm one of the lucky ones.

I've had no issues with mine apart from it overheating which was as expected really in the circumstances.

However, GoPro is American............ That's the way they roll, need I mention Apple.....? Craig Rogers

I received an RMA number from gopro to return camera but thought I would do one last update just to make sure, done update and got the version number showing on start up which I hadn't seen before, since then I have been almost destruction testing this camera and it has been as stable as a rock, one freeze and that was me plugging in the battery backpac whilst the camera was on, obviously didn't like that, other that it has been fine Cool
I've emailed gopro to see how long the RMA is valid, if it stays like this I think will hang onto it a while longer, still got 9 months on the warranty Thumbs Up Optimists say the glass is half full..
