France 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Santorini Black
“It wouldn't take much right now to push me into another marque”

But which one exactly? For as long as there’s there’s no real alternative to a Defender, LR can carry on building rubbish in the knowledge that “they won't sell any more by building them properly”.

Mine’s not two years old and the chassis mountings for the rear axle lower links are well on the way to rusting through.

I know mate, its difficult. I love my Defenders, but that corrosion aint good. Its my first new LR and I thought it might see me right for a few years before the fun started, but clearly not!

Can you still make your Swiss warranty work for these issues over there in UK, Steve?

Yes Eric, it's a European warranty, in fact AutoBritt wrote to me offering an extended warranty .. all in their best French .. I'm probably going to give it a miss and put the same money aside in a savings account (I don't do enough miles in my truck.. it's 3 years old and has 16k on it)

Not had the chance since I got her, but I will be doing. I move back to UK in August and have some time before starting new job, so I will do it then.

Understand this in your case. Swiss extended warranty only makes sense to take out when you are local here, so also get it serviced here. Because the price of the extended warranty includes also the scheduled annual service. I have it and used the extended warranty already a few times, one of which was actually abroad when I had a leaking rear diff seal when visiting Belgium. The LR extended warranty works a treat, I did pay the Belgian LR dealer for their work, presented the invoice to Autobritt, and had the money back in my account within a week. Thumbs Up . You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

I learned that the first thing to do when you buy a Defender, you MUST make a full Waxoyl treatment (from the day after.......)

Hi Steve

No consolation I know but mines exactly the same after 2 months.
It's in today for anew expedition roof rack as faulty from new, a new lamp guard faulty from new and the air intake cover as just fell off.
If I want them to sort the paint on the windscreen hinge it needs to be booked in at another time.

Got a Ford focus as a loan car but have to pay 12 pound a day for there insurance.
Rolling with laughter

I still love it though and already saving for the new galvanised chassis and bulk head in 3 years time.

Get it treated sooner and you can spend the several thousand pounds on something else as you won't need it galvanised . Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Exactly the reason why I have just ordered a pair of Croytec anodised black windscreen blocks for the new 90 Thumbs Up

This time I will get the original blocks off before they corrode and store them. If I sell the 90 in the future then I can replace the original blocks and fit the anodised ones to another vehicle. On the 110 I waited until the originals corroded before replacing them so had to leave the anodised ones on it when I sold it.

You learn by your mistakes Thumbs Up
