Alarm Fault - ? AS10 unit
Since returning from Norway the Defender has been enjoying a well earned rest with it just being moved in and out of the garage a few times as space was required. Today, I came to move it again and seem to have developed a problem with the alarm Big Cry

I moved it out of the garage, having unlocked it with the fob, and all was fine. As I went back in the house I pushed the button to lock the doors again and it made the sound as though the doors were locking but it didn't sound quite 'right'. The horn didn't go off to indicate a mis-lock so I just went round and checked the doors. One of them, the rear driver door, hadn't locked so I pushed the fob to unlock and then re-lock but this did nothing, no response at all.

I unlocked the driver door with the key, tried to start the car but as soon as I turned the ignition to stage two the horn sounded solidly and stayed on, and the alarm LED also stayed on solidly..... When I back the ignition back off to stage 1 the alarm led goes out (and doesn't blink or show any signs of life once it has gone out) and the horn goes quiet.

Ive since tried disconnecting the battery for 20+ mins, putting in the EKA and every other combination of button pushes door opening etc. I can think of, but no response, I've also tried a different key and fob with a known good battery in. Despite all this the car hasn't responded once to the key fob being pushed. It also won't communicate with the Nanocom, it did briefly for about 5 minutes but since I can't get it to...

Any advice would be gratefully received! Does anyone think this is a problem with the 10AS, i've done a few searches but can't find any identical faults to this?!? It's now stuck on the drive and is meant to be going on a trip tomorrow!

I've had problems witht the AS10, green terminals, but you ought to check all the fuses first. Some under the dash and some under the driver's seat.

Thanks both,

All fuses removed, checked, and replaced, no problems there.

No problems with the charge in the batteries.

I disconnected the battery all afternoon but the fault is still there when I reconnected.

All the other electronics in the car seem to be working fine, even turns the starter over when you advance the ignition but engine immediately dies as with the immobiliser being active.

The person with the best knowledge is Lorryman. Try and contact him by PM. In the meantime, it does seem to be related to being left idle. Fob batteries? If you need to get at the AS10, then prepare yourself for a fight! LR put that on the production line and build the car around it.

Cheers Merlin, i've PM'd Lorryman Thumbs Up

I know it seems likely that it is linked to lying up, but the fault is the same regardless of which of the three keys is used.

Also noted now the interior light isn't doing anything. The more I look at it the more I think the alarm unit is at fault!

Anyone have a spare AS10 Whistle
