a tiny bit of snow and the car wouldn't start......
with all the problems I've had I wasn't in the mood for peeing around so straight on the phone to LRA having tried 3 times to start the engine......... LRA turn up, turn the key and - it started. stoped it and started it - actually sounded silky smooth he reckoned it was the immobiliser.......didn't do anything different to usual so a little concerned but I have to say its running GREAT at the moment. ps. last night I gave the MAP sensor another good blast with carb cleaner..... and a blast on contact spray on the MAP and MAF sensor plugs. |

Mine does this on occasion ...... just lock/unlock motor with the fob and that always clears it on mine Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

I had this happened to me and there are times it doesn't start and times it starts perfectly. Took me a few months to figure it out.
My starter innards were wearing out. So after a rebuild it works well. Fires up always on first crank. If the immob was causing it, it should turn over but refuse to start, if it doesn't throw the engine immob light. If it throws the engine immob light, it will not turn over. For Gawds sake don't complicate it with talk of wearing starters, Caterham will be waking up in the night in a cold sweat all of a worry Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

if only MOG.
I have a feeling I won't be sleeping tonight there's been times in the past were I thought I'd simply let go of the ignition prematurely and it hadn't started....but now I wonder.........if...... picked up my new bonnet release cable yesterday (after muppets broke it I'm gonna fix it - but what a stupid design - the cable comes complete with release lever. my lever is fine and was hoping to swap just the cable but it looks like trying to remove cable from lever will result in the same little bit of plastic breaking again ) off to check starter internals |

This happened on the old 2009 110, the clue is in the next sentence
First time it happened after about 18 months and the second a few months before I sold it. Unlocked vehicle, would not start, no starter motor - zilch. Got out, went and got spares keys and it started first time. The first time it happened what I did not notice was the fact the indicators did not flash when I unlocked it got it yet ? Batteries in the key fob had gone, the one I use everyday went first and a couple of weeks later the spare. Changed batteries, did the key learn and all sorted until late last year and it did the same thing. My guess is the fob would unlock the vehicle OK but due to low power and some electrical black magic the immobiliser did what it was built for. Might be worth changing the fob batteries even if the dealer has done them recently, they are a 2 year service item but if you only take the vehicle in with one of the fobs that is all they can change. only ever use the one set of keys.
recently had its 2 yrs service and I'm pretty confident they wont have changed the battery (I might be wrong) but very much doubt they'll have done something useful and will have bust something instead that I'm yet to find will keep my eyes peeled but I'm sure the lights do flash - even if the drivers door doesn't open....another little fix I need to find the time to do. thanks Bob. |

I would put a new battery in regardless, only a couple of quid.
If it ever happens again you would have eliminated that as a potential problem Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |
