Thanks again everyone for all your opinions..............

I have an old 96/97 993 911 for a colourful drive, so the RRS being a bit dull might not be a problem.

I will be sorry to see the Defender go, always wanted one, the idea of a car outlasting me with very low depreciation and timeless looks was very appealing ah well.

D4 all day long....

I love proper Land Rovers, I've restored them, rebuilt them, learn't to drive in them if you cut me in half I will probably have a green oval in the middle and I won't be without my 110.

But....

The D4 is just an awesome car and prior to the new RR without a doubt the best car LR have ever made.

(I still reckon it's a better all rounder than a new RR cost vs practicality and all that)

(Although I'm now saving up for a D5 Thumbs Up 7 seats & 45 MPG)

Almost certainly going to get a RRS, there are so many out there tho'

Sadly, the old girl is up for sale, I've stuck her on the for sale and wanted section if anyone wants a nice clean low mileage Puma.

Thanks for all the advice

Sorry to hear about that, but it's your decision!
If you're after a RRS, take a look at the Range Rover Sport forum That's the sister site of this Defender forum, and should be able to give you lots of good advice Thumbs Up An engine to TDi for!

Everyone is different, but for out and out fun with something that you are not scared of using then has to be a Defender, forget the 90 they are just not adaptable enough always go for the 110.
They are after all, old world engineering I personally enjoy the fact that you can take a spanner to them and sort out 90% of problems yourself. Would you even attempt any kind of repair on a RRS, perhaps not but then not all people like that sort of thing! You only have one life, live it....forget the cost.

face lift RRS is a must with the 3L engine. I know a man who got rid of his D4 due to constant flat battery, thin paint, and general disappointment. He drives an M reg Toyota EVERYWHERE! and swears by it.

but for the money i have been offered a cracking deal on a Toureg.

same underpinning as the Cayenne, VERY good spec and alot less. VW reliability and just as much pose as the RRS.

Personally a 964 floats my boat more but the new 991 gt3 is on the lotto list!

Came from a fully loaded Passat CC, lovely car, comfortable and smooth to drive, but was just there!

90 is clunky, keaky, impracticle and agricultural, but Mrs f15hie says everytime i am doing stuff to it or driving i am like a child with a new toy and i really look forward todriving it. Its like being a teenager with his first car any excuse to drive or sit in it listening to the radio whilst tinkering Thumbs Up

I said tinkering Bow down

Think twice before going back to a bland, comfortable motor.

Really Question

yes. wont need suspension arms etc after 10k, will do 40 mpg and wont fall apart.

id love a RRS to replace he 110 when im done but i couldn't face the constant disappointment, the 110s bad enough.

Yes, thanks I am checking out the RRS forum, great source of info, a few scare stories of course but on the whole RRS seems pretty good.

The simplicity of wrenching on the Defender was appealing on the whole I like simpler older cars so sticking my neck out with a RRS.

110 great vehicle with loads of space but think I'd have the same beefs with comfort and noise and she is a big old beast.

Yes Tig I am looking at the facelift model, I had a 964 and now have a 993, the 964 has an amazing shape but at one time was a bit of a black sheep of the 911 range, I think the poor old 996 now inherits that mantle........

I take your point about going bland........ driving the 90 is an "event"

Thanks to all for opinions

'yes. wont need suspension arms etc after 10k, will do 40 mpg and wont fall apart'.

Umm.. 40mpg, yes perhaps when its on the back of trailer on its way to having a new gearbox fitted (or as VW Toerag OWNERS prefer to call them judder boxes.

But at least while its on the trailer you won't have to worry about the incurable rear tyre wear problem!

i am not saying RRS aren't without their problems, but if you believe a Toerag is any better well thats your choice, but Range Rover has the name, VW well they made the Beetle... nuff said! You only have one life, live it....forget the cost.

i drive a 110...so what would i know about premium brands!

but for MY money there are more, better SUVs than a landrover product right now.

Finally the sun is shining, so I'm taking Wifey's 1974 Beetle/Porsche hybrid out tomorrow Very Happy
I have to defend VW's 1974 build quality though - it's about the same as what LR do now Laughing Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
