Advice re. Faultmate MSV
For a number of years I have had a Faultmate MSV (now known as MSV1) which I have used on my Disco2. I have recently bought the hardware and software to use this on the Defender as well, however I am having some "issues".

Is there anyone here who can tell me if the MSV1 should be powered from the OBD socket when using the type 2 VCI (CANbus) lead? When I connect to the Defender with this VCI the power LED comes on steadily but very dim, if I switch the ignition on it flashes dim-bright-dim etc. I cannot "find" the VS using the settings menu, and any attempt to access the ECU results in a VSE 006 error.

If I use my Disco2 type 1 VCI (non-CANbus) on the Defender, obviously I can't access the EMS ECU but the VS powers correctly and I can even read the settings from the 10AS unit.

Does this suggest there's an o/c connection in the CANbus VCI?
