I was also a little baffled as to why those fir tree's above the door had to come out, I did remove them as they were step one of the instructions but I left the one out and refit the other and I had to drill at an angle to find the frame But, like you say, very minor issues and overall a good mod Optimists say the glass is half full..
Pessimists say the glass is half empty.. Engineers say the glass is twice the size it needs to be! |

Yes same here.
Leave the fir trees in place!! Good product!!! I ran two separate 2.5mm2 ripcord cables to the top to fit additional electrics. |

Need an opinion from the guys that already have the mud console installed...
I'm a tall guy and when inside my Defender my head is about 1.5 inches away from the top of the car so when i look straight forward my view area is just near the top of the front windscreen. If I install this roof console do you think I will loose some visibility? Thank you. |

I've fitted a MUD console and have no problems. I'm over six feet tall and have a seat lift of one inch as well. In fact as the sun visors are a bit lower it's better as there is less windscreen at the top to give glare.
If I were you, I'd buy it. It's a great piece of kit. Merlin |

Don't do what I did, fit it and then take it out to fit the CB. I found it best to cut the headlining and run wires before fitting the console. I poked a straightened coat hanger between the headlining and the roof to get the wires through and then ran them down B pillar.
I must say that MUD have done a wonderful job, many people think it's OEM. Merlin |

I fancy one of these to house my Ham Radio head, even SWMBO thinks they are a great idea
There is talk in the thread about the rear washer feed pipe above the door and to be careful to avoid it. Without taking down the headlining (perhaps this is why the fir trees should be removed ) how can you be sure to avoid it? Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

Didn't know about the pipe. Perhaps that was just as well. Thought there was a large 'wire' there but just worked around it. So, not a problem.

Well, finally got mine, arrived yesterday fitted this morning.
A few observations, you need strong thumbs to get the fir tree fasteners in!, I used a piece of 2x1 to push them in. When fitting the outer parts, if you are doing it alone, as I was, it makes it a lot easier if you temporarily duct tape the sunvisors to the moulding and use a drop of superglue to hold the spacer. The instructions say that the door frame is tough to drill, it is! I broke 2 drill bits, I found that a 3.5mm drill, as advised by blackwolf was too small and I was unable to fit the screws without chewing up the heads, 4mm seems ok, maybe they've changed the spec of their screws ( which seem overly long?) All in all I'm very pleased with it, it looks very smart, like OE. Now for the Ham Radio head unit! Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

As I'm now looking for a better place to put the CB, I've just taken the plunge and bought one.
Can someone who has one fitted let me know the rough height between one of the shelves and the headlining. The reason I ask is I'm hoping to hide my CB's external speaker on top of the one of the shelves and the speaker I've got is about 6cm in height. I looks as though it'll fit ok from the photos. Hi Craig,
The hight of the shelf "orifice" is 50mm, the internal height is approx 65mm but this only goes back about 50-60mm (to allow for the sunvisor recess) and goes down to approx 50mm, so I think it may be a bit tight. An option might be to cut out a bit of the head lining or perhaps surface mount the speaker facing down inside the shelf? Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |
