Puma Keys
I noticed that some of the newer Defenders have "modern" ignition keys, mine still has the traditional Defender key.
Does anyone know why it changed ? Puma 110 sw White

Niel I have not seen what the new keys look like. But I feel anything old and boring stands less chance of breaking or giving trouble. My Defender key looks the same as my MGB GT key which is 30 years old. The Defender Puma has a very sophisticated anti theft system which has given me a few heart attacks in the middle of the bush in Mozambique. Due to my own fault I have caused it to enter anti theft mode a few times. Each time she enters anti theft mode the vehicle will not start for a few minutes. I just had to sit there sweating bullets till the computer reset itself. Maybe next time I go to Moz I should bypass the immobiliser temporalily.

I had to get a key spare key cut for ours and the key was under British Leyland. On that basis I would say I have the old style key! Rolling with laughter

I bought a new key set for my project110, with ignition barrel, and i got the "new" key as well.

It certainly feels nice, however when the headlights are turned on (this is Td5, so with the column mounted light switch) and you try to start the engine, your hand (well,. my shovels anyway) get in the way of the light switch, the space is quite confined.

hardly an issue i know! Laughing

The alarm fob is still the same Lucas unit as used on the 300tdi and probably earlier.

The key isteslf, they have just redesigned the plastic bit on the end, making it larger with the landrover logo moulded into it. I'm suret he metal key blank is the same.

As far as the Puma having a very sophisticated anti theft system, it is a shame the alarm can be defeated in seconds (see LR stripped post) It does however show that the immobiliser works very well.
