Thanks BPMan. The ATs look good.
Doesn't Continental own BFG now? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender |

Sorry BR, missed your post Is it the ATs you have or another 4x4 type. What I'm looking for are tyres to help make a series handle & stop better.... I have the standard land rover for Conti's AT Cross 235's and they've done over or near the 30k mile mark with with about 9mm of tread left
What I should say is that when I bought the 110 in sept 2010 I was living in Aberdeen and the 2010 and 2011 winters were really good (bad if you don't like snow and ice) and I never had any trouble. I would leave the house before the snow plows had been out and easily drive to work with 6-8 inches of snow in the road Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

As mine is a 2011MY they came factory fitted as standards on XS's so not sure how much they would be a corner. Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

I've found ex VAT online prices below 80 for 205/80. Otherwise there's the less advanced Insa Turbo Dakar for around same price inc VAT. No problem with my Goodyear mtr's. in fact I v,e been that impressed with them I've just put a new set on. I drive in all sorts of conditions every day and find them excellent. I could have had some more aggressive tyres for the mud and snow but I also do a fair bit of road work too and the mtr's seem to be very good all rounder.

i put on General grabber AT2 with optional Studs, not like I can stud them here anyway...
My wife usually takes the defender with the kids and has no problem, although the roads are generally cleaned quite well. If it is icy though, we are all elephants on iceskates and little can be done to stop us. Steve, my old 520 with cheap Sava tires was ploughing through about 15 cm of snow back in december...super fun in empty parking lots too. Ericvv, i thought you put your defender in the garage for witer to keep the salts it? having grown up in Southern Oregon mountains, the only thing that can guarentee traction ALL the time is a snow cat or a great set of chains. 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately) IN the hunt for another Puma for the wifey! 2008 Kia Sorento LX 😁 2.5crdi |

Half correct. It came out this week a few days after the big rains of last weekend had removed whatever salt was still there, and on wednesday had a thorough clean, but then yesterday it went back under cover as we have a new cold snowy front coming as of tomorrow As said before, we have the luxury here around Geneva of about the best public transport system I have seen anywhere, so I can leave the truck parked up even for weeks at length during winters...... You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |
Back to original OP question. I have 5 winters experience with the winter wheel/tire combination offered by LR Switzerland as an official LR accessory, and provided you drive carefully in wintry/snowy conditions as you should, they have proven flawless until now. These are Nokians on Modulars.
If you would be facing really serious ice conditions, they also can be studded, matter of fact I have seen two Puma Defenders this week in Kiev (UA) with these Nokians studded And besides being really good,............. they also look great IMO Studded Hakkas is the shiznit! /FG Click image to enlarge |

YES, they are But studs are not legal here in Switzerland
Usually studs are not necessary, but if the going gets tough, I have 4 chains in the back to put on the Nokians You never actually own a Defender. I think Landrover had it right with the tyres they fit as standard. These have been fantastic in snow recently and off-road in mud.

Newbie checking in. What an amazing forum you have; really looking forward to getting more involved. My background is dirt bikes, so used to getting filthy but I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to 4x4, so the learning begins here.
I'm trying to distil this thread and shortlist some dedicated winter (i.e. snowflake) tyres for a 110 (picking up a week Wednesday ). Would love Nokian LT2 but they don't seem to be readily available in UK? Next up seemed to be Conti Cross but when I searched with a view to buying I just found All Terrain which I assume are all-season but not snowflake. The only snowflake tyre that's seems to be easy to get is the Cooper Discover M+S. Have i got this right, and if not, recommendations for a tyre supplier that will take the headache away? Pleasssse.
