SVX headlights - aux high beam level adjustment
My Speakers are perfectly leveled which is easy to do via the little screw at the bottom of each lamp. The two aux high beam lamps (those with a 65W H7 Halogen bulb) are not properly aligned. Both are pointing too low, and one more than the other. It is the bottom lamp in below picture.....

Is there a way to level these aux high beams units without having to take off the entire soft A-bar and the plastic SVX front? If not, is it possible to take off the two sides of the plastic SVX front without removing the soft A-bar and the plastic radiator center piece? I have seen that there are one or two screws that hold these side elements in place......
Tks, Eric

From taking mine off many times during my debacles with lights which is well documented on the forum i can assure you that you will have to take off the centre grill as a screw goes through both the grill and the light surrounds on either side. This will also mean taking off the A bar unfortunately.

I find that the spot lights dirty the beautiful white light of the speakers. Big Cry

on a high note, the screws are all very obviously placed and accessible, then all screws are undone, you need to either lift up or push down as there is a lip holding them secure against the wings (can remember is it's up or down) sorry.

Enjoy Thumbs Up ===================================

The lip they hang off is at the top, so once the screws are removed, you lift the whole assembly up from the bottom and it will come free. I've taken mine off a couple of times for bulb changes and I can't believe how much of a pain in the backside it is to have to remove so much stuff for such a simple maintenance task.

You do not need to lift the surround.

See here

You can arrive to the level adj screw with a "+" screw driver from here There is a hole on the "bend" of the screw that take on place the plastic surround to the car

OK, gave it a try, but not sure abt result.... In order to easily reach that screw best is to first unscrew the black screw and washer which hold the plastic surround tight to the front of the wheel arch. Thereafter with a long screwdriver it indeed is easy to reach up to the screw which is supposed to level the aux high beam lamps. But these levelling screws move very difficult, and I do not see much result of the lamp actually levelling up or downward.
Just to be clear, from Daniele's drawing it seems that I have to turn the screws counter clockwise to level the aux high beam lamps upward. Is that correct? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Normally the screws are hard to turn (clockwise for lift the beam).

Spray same WD40 or silicon. Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

WD40 always does its magic. Thumbs Up Think have been succesful raising them now.
Will properly check if high enough when it is dark, probably only tomorrow night, as this afternoon it suddenly started raining cats and dogs here. Big Cry
Have also been running the truck on idle for some time today with the high beam on, and suddenly the Speakers started flickering, so battery must have been below the 12V limit. Have put the C-tek charger on for now..... You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Saw in the other post.....

strange, because at the idle the generator (150A) MUST BE ABLE to charge the battery, always....

How old is your truck? Check with a multimeter the voltage at the battery when the engine is running:

- at idle (750 rpm) V > 12,7 V

- at 2500 rpm V > 13,6 (13,8V - 14,5V)

If lower, please check your battery and charging system...... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Truck is from Sep 2008, an SVX. 60k km now.... I must admit to always run short distances here, usually from my house to town which is 10km only. As said, the flickering (rapid blinking) of the Speakers only occurred once this morning while the engine was running, and during a few seconds only, thereafter they have been working normally again, also on high beam when the aux lights also work.
I have the C-tek on it now and it is slowly charging the battery.

mine is dec 2008 and 1 week ago I changed the battery!!!!!

when I started up the engine for 20 secs my JWS start to flickering also. With the new battery never happens, even after 20 minutes of Webasto before turning on the engine.

I installed a 100 Ah, 1100A start.... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
