That clicking ticking sound from a wheel or tyre when moving
Occassionally I have a clicking/ticking sound from a wheel. Usually front, this time left. Its not gravel in the rim because its rate is directly proporional to my speed.

In the past I thought gravel protuding from the tyre tread might be responsible, & sometimes driving over bumpy ground will stop the noise.

Is the cause & noise however known/experienced by anyone here on a Defender. (Sometimes gravel wedged beween brake & caliper makes an ear splitting screech) Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Tyre ticking in my experience has always been a stone in the tread.

FIVE !! Laughing

Usually it will stop and be immediately followed by a bang as the stone hits the wheelarch ! Though if you have Dynamat ore any other quality soundproofing fitted, it won't be so loud !!

Had the same at low speed , drove me nuts as I couldn't find the stone. Eventually took the wheel off, pads and pins out, cleaned it all up, popped wheel on, ticking noise gone.

Still might have been a stone tho...

I hope it is just a stone in the tread. Blocky AT tread can hold bigger stones!

Next time it happens, stop, check tires, move 50 cm forward, check tires again.... You should know then if it indeed is a stone in the tire thread or something else.... Thumbs Up You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Gravel in the tread. But occasionally if un-lucky a stone can jam in the brakes and start squeeling until it free's it's self. I think in period of about 3 years Defender driving I've had a stone in the brake about 3 - 4 times some difficult to shift others not. No Guts, No Glory.
