Switzerland 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
I had the rebooting issue a year ago with my Nvi 750 (which came standard with the SVX). Went on the Swiss Garmin website, described the problem and asked (and got) a return number for repair. Mailed them the unit, and a week later received it back completely fixed, free of charge. Worth checking out. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

It was playing up and rebooting all the time over the last few months and I have been eyeing replacements but it seems to have stabilised of late so going to hang it out a little longer.

That's a classic symptom of the internal battery failing on these units. If kept charged then it's not a problem. If allowed to go flat though then 12v struggles to charge it properly and the unit keeps rebooting. Charging from the mains can usually resuscitate it but the long term fix is to replace the battery, which is doable albeit fiddly.

I have been using it a lot more recently especially since updating the map so the battery has been pretty much full all the time. What you've said makes perfect sense. If I leave it for long periods going forward I will throw it on the mains before use.

Thanks LandRoverAnorak!

Hardwired into the rear of the lighter socket. Fused correctly to the same standard as the original Sat Nav power plug fuse amperage. You can also still use the lighter socket at the same time without having the Sat Nav power wires all over the place or the plug in the way of 5th gear. Thumbs Up The power lead just comes up out the top of the dash to where required.

Drop me a PM if you'd like any more info or perhaps some pictures. Thumbs Up ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

No idea mate. They have so many models now I get confused with it all. Why have so many when it's only the more expensive one's that have the best features. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Fed up. I have been a TOM TOM fan until yesterday. My TT said it needed an update on maps and won't connect to the TT Home site even when re registering so now woefully out of date and I will need an update for France.

So I have gone all hi-tech and trying out the Navmii in my Galaxy S3. If it works I probably won't bother with a Sat Nav again, just the phone app.

I have heard that the Garmin app is very good, any recommendations? A quick look suggest you have to pay for the UK and then again for Europe [France] which seems expensive. I will have to investigate a bit more.

cheers BM52

What sat nav do you run, what's good about it ? Would you buy it again ?

I have a Garmin with 5 inch screen. It followed one with 4.3 screen. I find Garmins clearer to read at a glance than Tom Toms. Some TT have 6 inch screens, but comparing both side by side, the Garmin 5 inch still seems superior. Maybe Garmin have better resolution & contrast?

Does anyone run 2 satnavs side by side? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Yes, a Garmin Nvi 770 in my SVX, and a Garmin Nvi 3590LMT in madame's car. Both are excellent, but the 3590 of course is a newer generation with more features. I am a big Garmin fan, find them much more userfriendly and menu logical than any other brands. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Just gone into Garmin's site & found this new model dezl 760LMT https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/on-the-roa...12211.html

Just a bit cheaper than an iPad (more than a Kindle Fire) but its 7 inch screen & is for truckers. " It also shows you hazard warnings such as lateral winds, sharp bends and exit services ahead, along with trucking points of interest (POIs). When you trust dēzl 760LMT-D to create a route for you, you'll know it's a good route for both you and your trailer. "

Bought one. Hopefully have it in time for my Exmoor trec. Happy Birthday me. Mr. Green Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender
