As long as you use the Ninety 'frame' to keep the depth right, I can't see any reason why not.

So.... the disco Td5 fuel pump is exactly the same as a 90 (and I suspect a 110) pump, just the float arm is different... but they unclip, so it takes about 30 seconds to swap them over.

Do you know the position in the floor that would needed to be cut to make a hatch to be able to remove a pump without removing the tank?

On a 90? Yes, got mine cut out with an inspection plate.
Will post up the dimensions tomorrow. |

Download .pdf for 90 tank The writing is in Italian.... that's 'coz I stole them off the interweb ages back. but you can see where the hole should go easily enough. I used an inspection plate from an old discover1 that was in the scrap yard. held in with 6 self tappers (into those locut plastic insert things)... although you could just screw straight into the floor plate if you wanted. The disco inspection plate is plenty big enough to get the Td5 pump up through. |

Can the hole be cut in the floor with the tank still in situ or does it need to be removed?

Yes but don't cut too deep as the pipes etc are under there, I used a grinder with a thin cutting blade and just cut through the surface, you've got at least 25mm to play with though |

If you cut through you'll remove one of the floor reinforcing secctions.

If you're careful you can cut a large enough inspection hole whilst retaining most of the reinforcing bar under the floor - You will need to cut 2/3 of it through though.
If you are cutting through with the tank in, as I did, put a piece of 3mm steel plate (or similar) between the tank and the floor first. You can feed the plate in from underneath if it's not too big. It still pays to be careful, only allowing the cutting blade to go through the floor by a few mm but will save you £££ if you do slip ! http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

I assume thats a 110, the pump in the 90 is central, directly below the stiffener, isn't it?

No it's a 90.
I didn't use any measurements/templates, just cut a small (ish) hole central above the in tank unit - measuring from the rear and the side to get it's position. I then increased the hole outwards until I could fairly easily remove and replace the in tank unit through the hole. Hence I managed to avoid cutting through the floor strengtheners by having the hole offset slightly. Of course there are at least two types of TD5 90 fuel tank, I know they have different filler tube diameters, no guarantee that they both have the in tank unit in the same place !
