I'll give a to Sikaflex for most leaks! It's worked a treat to seal my sump, and a few other things An engine to TDi for!

Whilst Sikaflex 291i is brilliant stuff it can only be used in temperatures of -40 to +90 on the rocker cover I would use Holdtite RTV853. Better than Sikaflex in a hot oily environment and used prolifically in the marine engineering world.

Cheers K9F. If its good for Marine environment and upto 270 deg'c then it could be worth a dabble.
Maybe that's were I am going wrong and the Hermattie blue/red is breaking down with the heat? 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Have you checked if the head is warped or twisted. If it keeps blowing gaskets it sounds like something isn't right..?

Might be worth putting it on a flatbed to check next time you take it off..

I wouldn't fret about a warped head just yet. Degrease as much of the rocker cover gasket surface as possible/practical. Try the Holdtite as it is 'fit for purpose' and a high grade and effective sealant and I reckon you'll have no further worries.

Its not the head I am taking off! But worth checking the flatness of the rocker. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I'd imagine most of the products mentioned will do the job just fine.
I use Wurth products for various jobs and find them very good quality. |
