Removed earth and ...
I am fitting a winch and when I removed the earth connection at the battery an alarm started sounding. Not as loud as the normal alarm but noisy nonetheless.

Is this the alarm working from the backup battery and should I have removed the live connection first to prevent this occurring? Not heard of this issue previously.

It's a 2012 Puma.

Cheers,

On the 110 (2009) without the backup alarm you just remove the negative as normal.

On the TD5 which has got a backup alarm there is a specific sequence that has to be followed to remove the earth.
Also, if you fail to follow the removal procedure there is a specific way to restore power and stop the alarm.

I guess the 2012 with a backup alarm will have a set sequence to be followed. Have you had a look in the owners handbook ?

Absurd as this sounds, I've just read the very thin owner's handbook,

"Your vehicle may be fitted with a battery backed-up sounder that operates as an anti-theft siren. It will activate when the battery is disconnected unless disconnection is made within 15 seconds of removing the starter key from the starter".

Problem solved.
