Having looked at the 10as on my new puma , I am beginning to think there is a lot of urban myth how bad the alarm is.
The old unit could be snipped behind the headlight and horn shorted out . The new one cannot as it has a battery backed siren. Any alarm can be disconnected and with a bit of time cut out. If nobody responds to the sound , waste of time. I have added to to the 10as , by adding a tilt sensor and impact sensor. If the wheels come off the ground it goes off. Wrench on the spare wheel it goes off. Window break etc. Multi layered approach as in pedal lock , disc lock , tracker will protect your car and deter your casual thief. Bonnet security is rather easy . Abus do a nice flexo steel that prevents that being stolen . If they have 30 mins and an angle grinder it will go anyway. Soon as my bonnet pops the alarm goes off . Security screws on the headlight stop them from getting behind it. Bolt heads can be metal stopped , yes it costs you a bolt or 2 but means they will not have your doors easy. Most professionals will case the car 1st and think , that's not easy money , NEXT . |

In my younger days the Clifford alarms and toad alarms were top notch is it worth adding one if these or are they to outdated for the modern thief?

The problem is the 10as and immobiliser are built into the key / ignition.
You would have to completely remove it or carry two sets of remotes. And then if it fails to start which one. The clifford avant guard which is now obsolete was probably the best . But even that was easy enough to disable with 15 mins or so. The 1st 3 mins is critical , if it texts you , wakes you . If your 10 mis away its gone. Hence alarm , disclock, tracker , pedal lock , data tag give you a chance. Remember defenders are nicked for parts not joyriding I think . My take is never leave it anywhere vulnerable. Sealing the doors stops your pikeys 3 min stop over. Disk lock / pedal lock stops them driving it somewhere quiet. If they get to mine they will probably fire it as they cannot strip it easy , but this would just make me as I would have pi&&&d them off so much . Life is too short to get too stressed about it . Protect it insure it enjoy it |

The only issue that still cannot get my head round , do the thieves have cloned keys ? Or is this another myth .
Even if they have a cloned remote , key is not the same and disclock and pedal lock stop them from moving it easy. Or do they look for cars with no additional security just the factory fit. Would take them a while to strip mine , might ask them to adjust the doors while they are at it. Especially if I leave the 2 Dobies in the back |
