Right I can now confirm that the L322 TTC heaters can't be triggered using only a 12V switch. They have an interaction with the HVAC controller in the car over the BMW-spec K bus which allows them to start HOWEVER I have just reprogrammed mine and it now fires up from a 12V switch - no HVAC needed. Absolutely over the moon Now just to get the rest of the bits to mount it 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

How did you manage to reprogramme and also do you think it would be possible to programme one to RR spec if sourced from another vehicle as I am sure some on FFRR would like to do that |

With the Webasto software and a lot of messing about. Technically it'd be possible to make one RR spec but I've obviously not done it yet... 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I have been considering a Thermotop to pre-heat/give me warm air from cold.
Looking at this thread you can purchase a ThermoTop C with a pump, add the wiring and a controller on the dash as well? Rover 75 ones appear to be quite popular. The Thermotops I have seen tend to just be the body and a pump, so is this just a case of Mount the heater Divert the flow of the water into the pump Add fuel source Add some power and a switch to run the heater and off you go? For those who have gone down the route with a TD5 and a 2nd hand thermo top with a pump how have you done this? 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Martin, could the thermotop v be altered to be 12v triggered?
If so I would be EXTREMELY interested 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Im not sure of the advantages of are of heating the engine over heating the cab, so i went for an ebersbacher mounted in the rear over the rear wheel, ducted into the front and rear with a dip tube into the fuel tank.
It has been brilliant. Maybe will add a timer or remote operation but for now just pop out and turn it on before going out. The main reason for fitting was i sit in the back operating radio so it keeps me toasty for the cold nights. Tc |

I was thinking of both. One to preheat the engine so I have warm air from cold and then one for rallies when sat around waiting for action or sat in a WRC stage for best part of a day. (maybe radio operating in the future) 1999 Defender TD5 110

You dont need to pre heat the engine to warm the cab with a warm air system. So the only real advantage I can see is reducing wear on the engine when starting from cold. As the defender has been made for that sort of use I have not bothered with block heating on mine. On the D4 it is another matter and I have.

This would be the holy grail I think, but I'm not aware of an application of the TT-V which is 12V triggered 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

That's a shame, I was given a brand new one with exhaust, intake and coolant pump. I was hoping to get it going with an oval timer triggered by a cheap RF relay. Obviously a software change would be a much neater option 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

There's an aftermarket 12V -> WBUS converter available on eBay for about £35 (cheaper than the Oval timer). 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top
