Bear in mind they are still talking about a 'single mechanical' means of electrical isolation being required for comps ...

It all appears up in the air, the regulations state that the cut off should be mechanical ie a physical disconnection of the positive battery cable with 'one' movement - which is fine if you have a single battery and don't need to pull a lot of current through the switch - but as most of us have multiple batteries and Gigglepin 'style' winches pulling hundreds of amps this isn't very feasible.
I've seen a row of heavy duty (250amp) switches in a line in a buggy with all the handles joined together with a 'cam' type lever but not very practical in a Defender. My solution was to have a 450 amp continuous rated double pole switch made for me by Albright (at huge expense) but that will only cut off two batteries .... Lots are using electronic cut offs - I guess it's down to the scrutineers .... |

The cost so far !
I'm up £3000 from the sale of engine and cooler and other parts Gearbox conversion from ashcrofts was £860 Allisport intercooler £420 Bmc air filter £400 Oil anti freeze and other choice parts inc sump £500 Allisport radiator £550 ( not actually needed ) but a choice item Castings and new belt £120 Exhaust parts £120 The cost of wireing from BAS ? The cost of the engine 5k with only 6miles on the clock Probly other stuff I've forgot ! So in conclusion to this I have spent about £7500 although I still have the BAS bill to come go easy on me Pete So up to Bowie spent 4.5k so I think this conversion if you do it yourself should be easy to get at around the 10k price depending on the cost of the engine ?
