Where the heater duct funnels down inside the wing the 'neck' bit of full of wet crud.
Surely the duct being on top is going to get the full hit of rain plus a mix of dust. How best can I clean the crap out. Is the hole a vent hole so I can ram it with some wire or is this hole a route to the heater fan and I should be a bit careful? Should I fit a downward style snow duct? |

hi thud,
at the bottom of the duct there should be a black rubber "teat" to let the water drain out, sometimes is sticks closed. the kbx cover might also be a consideration? |

Or a snow guard:
Click image to enlarge Cleaning the teat on the heater duct is one of those little 'service' jobs that gets forgotten - usually until water appears in the passenger footwell. If checked periodically, it shouldn't really be a problem. The teat can be found be running your hand down the side of the heater duct in the engine bay until you get to the bottom. Having just read back the above, I realise that this whole subject is a double entendre minefield Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? The LR dealer here just pulled the teat off and threw it away without even asking me Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Had the same problem once, but then after cleaning also installed a Entreq snow cover, and no further issues sofar.
Speaking of "teat", after reading the recent posts about airco condensation water in footwells due to blocked drainage teat which apparently located somewhere over and above the gearbox, I have tried carefully to locate that from underneath the car, but while finding all kinds of things there (without being able to see them) I could not find this teat sofar. I have no water issue, but just wanted to take a preventive look at it. If anyone has a very clear picture it might help to locate it You never actually own a Defender. Click image to enlarge here you go eric. must admit that i don't know if the td5 one above is the same as the puma; but it is the small rubber thing with a tapering chisel end (it is infront of the single red wire in the picture). |

So to be sure, with the Puma the teat to release the condense water of the airco is the one on the front corner of the air intake pan,the one which is very easy to reach by hand? No, I think some confusion has crept in. Farmer Giles' photo and Jims' comment relate to the air intake drain under the front wing. The aircon drain is underneath near to the gearbox. I have seen pictures of the latter posted before so a search might find them. Darren

OK, that makes sense. Yes, I saw that photo too with a red circle around the teat, but still could not find it when feeling around the gearbox area You never actually own a Defender.
