Hey Darren, good pic, think that's it decided.. 265's and spacers..good turning circle and less washing the dreaded hard to keep clean black than with 285's

Hi and welcome. I'm still running the standard tyres on mine but when I bought it the dealer confirmed that 265 tyres wouldn't give them any concerns as they are considered 'approved' for Defenders as they were a factory option some years back on a 90. 285s have not been a standard option and may give them wriggle room. Bear in mind yours will come with 235s so the 265s will look chunkier anyway.
Spacers are a whole different issue - I would suggest not having them fitted for any dealer visit and check your insurance company are ok with them. John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

Is there an official approval system for add-ons in the UK? Here we have ABE (overall use approval) and TÜV-approval for a particular vehicle type. Approved parts tend to be more expensive (as the manufacturers have to pay a lot to get the certificate) but it's worth it as LR Germany and insurers generally cannot turn their nose up at either of these. Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

No, the UK doesn't yet have the type of approvals you need elsewhere in Europe - I'm sure it will come in time though. John

Hi John and thanks for the welcome
The thing putting me off the 285's is they're not ideally suited to the rim (I'm guessing they're the same size as boosts) and if it ends up having the turning circle of a small planet then all I can do is put spacers on and then they might stick out too far. If they worked ok on the SVX rim and adjusting the steering stops cured the lock then I'd chance them |

had 285s on my 90 on standard boosts. no rubbing , no clearance issues.
just chucked it up the side all the time! AND was very slidy off road due to the bigger footprint. To big in my opinion. 255.85.16 are waiting for my 110 |

At the bottom of this page:
http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic12841....tyres+rims The Boy makes a comment about BFG recommendations for min/max tyre sizes on different width rims: 265 7" min 8" max 285 7.5" min 9" max Perhaps, although entirely possible, 285s might be a little on the broad side for 7" Boosts... Yeah I'm thinking that might be the case.. prob would have to run them at a lower pressure too as their profile would more rounded after being squeezed onto a slightly too small rim. Unless these wheels actually turn out to be 7.5 inchers
